What if good (though not perfect) grammar is habit? I can't very well start saying things like, "oh friggen garsh! thats such a crapload duh" I'm sorry, but that was difficult to do....

I hereby open this club to all eligable members who do not condone the irrational use of perfect grammar. One must become pure and understand through adequate education that not all nations spell words the same. In many cases one island will spell a word with an 's' where as an island nearby will spell the same word with a 'z'. Furthermore i wish to add that it is an 'Obsessive Compulsive Disorder' and 'sheep' like nature how people stick at people's bad grammer. Not only is the problem of them correcting others more annoying than a mispelt word, it is also comical in nature compared to the general flow of lifes obstacles and hardships.
To join you must not have perfect spelling.
Put more importance into a post rather than how it is put together.
Send me money.
Rebel against member's with perfect grammar.
Those who wish to try and convince potential members otherwise will be put forth before a firing squad. Any action deemed unreasonable by my good reasonings to spoil the club shall be dealt with by The Anti Grmmar Club staff.
To initiate your membership one must post here they're purpose for joining and state that they pledge themselves and their soul to the club and me. A statement of the club name is needed in a members signature from the time of joining to sustain a healthy membership.
WARNING-This is in no way the opinions or actions expressed by anyone on this site other than me. It does not represent the views of anyone else other than lots of people. Do not cry over this or send me money.

"If there was one thing the lucid dreaming ninja writer could not stand, it was used car salesmen."

I think you ought to add "anti-spelling" to your mission statement, as the two often go hand in hand. I personally have always tried to maintain at least legible spelling and grammar with all online textual exchange, although I have loosened up a bit in some respect, using such words and phrases as "teh" "tho" and "coolie/s".
I neither condone nor condemn this club and/or thread and/or its founder.

I disagree. It makes it a lot easier to read when people at least try to use, if not perfect then decent grammar. I would suspect there are a few errors in just these short sentences, so I have hereby qualified to write in this thread. My spelling and grammar isn't perfect, far from it. Especially in english. I do however try to do my best. Both for me and for those who read it.Originally posted by Xisdence

I'm studying in a university and sometimes we have to hand in papers. I also write other things that are meant to be read by a lot of people and some of it might even be called official statements. If i where to be unnecessarily sloppy with my spelling and grammar then it wouldn't look to good, now would it? Why would a public forum where I'm just a lowly member be any different?
Disclaimer: I'm just ranting...

Seriously though - I had the title of 'Spelling Nazi' for a while
Posting a reply, *purely* in order to correct someone's grammar or spelling is obsessive and perhaps elitist (unless it was a joke, or the topic)
Personally, I do it in jest - with no seriousness intended. And I never destroy a good thread for the sake of grammar or spelling - I will respond with an on-topic useful reply.
However when the language is so bad, as to make the meaning impossible to discern - I lose interest fast.
I personally do my utmost to make my posts easy to understand and of use to the board (generally)
Anyone not doing so is simply making everyone else's lives difficult by being lazy or inconsiderate.
Just to clarify: I don't mind the occasional, honest mistake. That's to be expected, and is not reflective of the person's attitude.
But being plain inconsiderate, lazy and thoughtless is something I find wasteful of everyone's time and energy
The clear communication is the important bit, not necessarily the language itself
Flame me if you like, thats your prerogative (as Britney would say)
PS: A lot of this is in parallel to Stalker's feelings on the matter, as I understand his post
[EDIT]
(1) You imply that people that have impecable language skills, and attempt to use them are uneducated. How insane is that... [to] understand through adequate education that not all nations spell words the same. In many cases one island will spell a word with an 's' where as an island nearby will spell the same word with a 'z'[/b]
(2) If you mean words like 'laser' vs 'lazer', then I agree with you. But then that would be a variation that does not lessen the meaning of the post and would not upset me in the least. If the word is a complete bastardisation and requires me to look at it three times to figure out the meaning of it, then don't expect my respect of the poster to rise - esp. if it was done in complete laziness or 'kewlness'

A bit OT but I'm curious. Where do they spell laser with a "z"? And do they also spell "stimulated" with a z?Originally posted by Placebo

But after checking www.dictionary.com, I cannot find 'lazer' at all![]()
Googling for it seems to come up with lots of hits though. Perhaps this is an example of advertising that has begun to confuse a word's spelling. Sites such as http://www.kozmiclazershow.com advertise as 'lazer', but describe 'laser'
Anyway, this is OT, so let's drop it. You know what I meant![]()

actually Placebo Xisdence didn't incorrectly spell "sight", he used it incorrectly.
and "My Perogative" was originally a song by Bobby Brown, all Britney did was ruin it.
Ignorant bliss is an oxymoron; but so is miserable truth.
Thanks for the info

Im expecting some half assed excuse for a way out, but nevermind that look at how many people want to be members!
It's annoying, true, but what are we supposed to do, ban members for poor grammar or slang or for writing "1337" or "leet" or whatever the frik it's called? I just don't see any way for us to enforce proper writing. So I guess, if you can't read it, ignore it. Then when the poster in question receives no replies, he or she will just have to clarify.Originally posted by Placebo+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Placebo)</div>I agree.Posting a reply, *purely* in order to correct someone's grammar or spelling is obsessive and perhaps elitist (unless it was a joke, or the topic)[/b]

Unless anyone has a better idea?
ps. I condone neither the use of improper spelling/grammar, the enforcement of guidelines against such use, NOR this club.
One must understand some of the viewpoints in my arguement though, which is how the problem of making a mistake or having 'non-perfect' grammer is undermined by a 'critisizing' and picky person of which shadows the point of everything. Though i very much agree with most comments such as Ophelia's and Placebo's.
