      Dobby war!

Okay, here's the deal. Me and my friend are both Harry Potter fans, and we can't agree on how to pronounce the house elf Dobby's name. He thinks it's pronounced with a long O sound, like "Moby" in Moby Dick, and I think it's pronounced with a short O sound, like "Bobby". How would you pronounce it?

Actually, I've always pronounced it 'doby'. (After all, why should I, as an American, pay attention to English spelling rules if the English themselves don't even pay attention to them?)

But then again, I also mispronounced Hermione for the longest time. Like in the third book when described how Grawp (SP?) "kept calling her Hermy-own". I was like "...What, that's not how you pronounce it? " Then I saw the first movie and was like "GAY. " when I heard the real pronunciation.

It's Dobby, rhyming with Knobby, Wobbly etc
