I don't play it. But I think it not That stupid as some people think it is, I can imagen I too could get totally lost in the game
You are talking about the bord game right? That's like the first RPG ever...
I'm starting to learn how to play Dungeons And Dragons, and if anybody would like to help me out, PM me for my AIM screename.
(P.S., If you could also help me out by giving me a good character sheet, I have yet to actually make my own character. I just got the Basic Game Box today with the pre-made character sheets for the starter dungeon thing)

You can ask me anything. It's a really confusing game at first, I know, but it gets easier.
I'm an avid player, and DMing a group right now.
If you want to, you can talk to me on AIM. My screenname is wtchhntr39501.

Yeah, it pretty much is. It was around about fourty years ago. Seriously. The first edition came out in the 60's, I think. I have only been playing since third edition came out (it's at three point five now), but I like to think that I have some mastery over the game. Anyway, yeah, it's really fun. I can't see why everyone thinks it's stupid. Most likely because they haven't ever played it, and have no idea what it is.Originally posted by Neruo

Oh, and it makes you look geeky if you play. OH NO!!!![]()

I write stories and sometimes I imagine what it would be like play this game. It can't be as bad as most people think of it I think. If you need any player handbooks or any of the books for that matter (I have all like 200 of the D&D books, although I never read any of them) on a few burned DVDs somewhere, AIM me or PM me sometime.
Wooo Hoo! Another convert to D&D! I'd be glad to help with any questions, my AIM is LordCoreon.
I am a leaf on the wind... watch how I soar!
Ah, D&D, I'd always wanted to play that but unfortunately I could find no one else to play it with. So I never got into it.
I even considered playing it by myself, but playing with one's self gets tiring after a while.![]()
Anyway, good luck and have fun immersing yourself into that game.
Ah, way back when I used to play AD&D. But.. that was a long time ago... over six years, I think... I still have the old rulebooks, at least a few of them, and have seriously considered getting back into playing... BUT I just don't have the time. Maybe during the holidays, or maybe once I've graduated and have the spare time... but then again, there's a big problem in finding NORMAL 20+ year-olds to play. However, if I worm my way into the history faculty in some sort of part-time tutoring position, which seems possible and perhaps likely at this point (history is my passion, and I have a very good rapport with a few senior history lecturers at my Uni) then perhaps that may be surmountable.
Feel free to PM me if you want, but I can't guarantee I'll be able to respond within the next week, as I have a lot of work due over the next week. However, after that, I'd be HAPPY to help you.
AD&D can be GREAT fun, but you need a number of things. By FAR the most important is a good DM. Without that, everything falls down. And truly good DM's are few and far between, I'm afraid...
I have to agree here. A DM is key and those rules are just a guideline. I've always been annoyed by rules lawyers (D&D term: People who go strictly by the book, word for word). What a pain! It's a game, hence it's supposed to be fun, not stressful and strict.Originally posted by The Blue Meanie

I've played D&D since my dad introduced me to Tunnels & Trolls (anyone remember that?) and AD&D when I was about thirteen. I worked in a comic/gaming shop for about three years and gamed with my coworkers (D&D3e) for almost as long. I used to know my stuff but there have been a couple of new editions since then and I'm not sure what changes were made.
Ah. D&D. It puts me in mind of a bunch of friendly geeks in the livingroom with lots of pizza and snacks and great imaginations. I really, really miss my old group and our silly, on-the-fly DM. He NEVER had a linear adventure and every now. Ultimately, the party had a task but he didn't keep us on railroad tracks, so to speak. He pretty much let us do what we wanted and he would go with it. We constantly challenged each other's minds, and It was wonderful. We always had so much fun. That, to me, is what makes a really good DM.![]()

Yep, those were the days. The thing is, I'd REALLY like to get back into AD&D, but I just don't have the time... IF I could find a decent group in my area, I'd consider it, but... well... it's just unlikely I'm going to find a bunch of normal (if nerdy) people my age (I'm 20) who play, ya know? Aghhhh...
Ah...Man, that's so much fun. I still have my group together. Right now, we just got done with a campaign (I was DMing; I LOVE DMing...Plus, they won't let me not DM, hahah), and my friend and I are doing something new. We've rewritten some of the rules of D&D, and placed it in the future. I know, there's a book that expands on the future, but to be honest...It kind of sucks. So, it's a new D20 system RPG set in the future. Him and I are going to co-DM, so that it's easier because we can run two parts of the campaign together and we can split up and stuff. It's going to be great. We ran a "beta test" tonight, actually.Originally posted by A Lost Soul

God, I love D&D so much.
The last campaign that I ran was AMAZING. It was based on Norse mythology and Loki and such. We had the most fun arrangement of characters, and EVERYONE roleplayed. It was like a DM's dream. Even the usually-annoying Hound Archon Fighter roleplayed to the bone. It was great. DMing is really, really fun for me. I kind of like it more than adventuring, actually. I love it when the players challenge their surroundings too. Oddly, I just love it when the players catch me off guard and do something utterly insane that I was never expecting, and then I have to go and rewrite the storyline later (in secret). With the last bunch, I had to do that after every session.![]()
