Well, I can find Civil Defense and Emergency Alert System, but no EBS....

I remember the sound well, but it has not been used since it was replaced by EAS in 1994.

I grew up in Northern Illinois. Can you say "tornado alley"?

Thing was activated often, sometimes not a test though...

i've heard the emergency broadcast system alert more recently than 1994.

That thing scares me out of my mind...it's like the whole country has been taken over or something (ie, they've shut down tv as phase one of takeover).

But, yeah, I haven't heard it too recently either.

I hope I'm saying the right thing...I mean the EBS TEST screen you know with all the colours

Are you talking about the color bar test pattern they used to throw up over an EBS broadcast?
