Thread: Tooth-Prom Crisis!

That bites!

Not as bad, but our prom's this Saturday and I was supposed to be going with one of my friends, but then it turned out she couldn't go so I'm not going to make it to my senior prom. I'm actually a little relieved, 'cuz I'm totally broke and would prefer a cheap date to prom anytime.

Though it's a bit funny, since it would be the third guy's choice dance that a girl asked me to instead of the other way around...

LOL.If we go to the prom, there will be pictures. We're both going midieval, so they won't be your traditional prom pictures.

Anyway, I am glad we caught the abscess, and now I am not so crazed out about the idea that I might miss prom. At least I won't have the dental problems......I mean, although I had never gone to the denitist before, I keep my teeth in very good shape. The dentist even said I had pretty teeth aside from the one that is abscessed (which is also chipped). Things could be a lot worse, I know.

can't you ask the dentist or it can be done 2 days later? You can just pull an allnighter, and show up totally drunk, you will not feel a thing

The problem is that an abcess can kill you if it bursts. It introduces a wicked toxin into your bloodstream. If your dentist says it can wait a couple of days, then that's cool. But be careful!

If the dentist says it ok the go. Root canals do hurt though. As it was explained to me, they drill a hole in the top of your tooth, then stick something in there and pull out the root of your tooth. It even sounds painful. It'll be anesthetized though.

Sorry about the bad news, Gwen. But you really should have that abscess addressed sooner rather than later. You could end up with septicemia and die (I know, it's a little melodramatic, but you don't want to have the bacteria enter your bloodstream and cause problems with your other major organs).

I wonder if the tooth abscessed because of the chip? Sometimes bacteria can enter through a chip, into the pulp and it'll abscess that way.

Weird that this is happening to you because my hubby's grandpa has been really sick for about 2 months now. He's had a low-grade fever, lost a bunch of weight, and the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. We were getting really worried because he was declining so fast. Well, he had a toothache so he went to the dentist yesterday and they took a full set of survey films (x-rays), and found an abscessed tooth! So that was the cause of this mystery illness that wouldn't go away. He's very lucky it didn't end up worse than that - he's been sick since the beginning of February.

It really sucks it may interfere with your prom - I hope everything turns out okay. I want to see pictures if you are able to go! I love medievel themes!

Oh come on guys- you're supposed to say 'don't worry, you won't feel a thing'- If you're not expecting pain, then the experience will be all the better (until you do feel the pain of corse).

Well there's also the "This is going to hurt a lot" approach. I don't know which one I prefer, but if I hear that it's going to be bad, it's usually not as horid as I had imagined it and I feel better that it wasn't so painful.

It just depends on the type of person you are.

Well guys, the abscess on the x-ray looked very large, and Burns, you were right in saying that the abscess entered through the chip.The dentist said that this is what happened, anyway. When the dentist showed me the abscess, it was under three of my front bottom teeth...No wonder I had been having toothaches that only occured when I touched my face. He and my mother made an appointment with a root canal speacialist for the 28th, assuming it doesn't worsen. Anyway, I am not going to put my prom first. My fiance and I are quite happy and I would rather not be seriously ill or dead . I'm not worried about the procedeure, really...I know I will be numbed up good for it, so it won't be too bad. It really makes me mad, because the dentist complimented my teeth, saying, "Oh, your teeth are so pretty. Too bad you have a chip and abscess!" It'll be fine though. If it gets worse by the 28th, I'll have to go in for an emergency procedeure, but he said I should be fine as long as I took my antibiotics.

And as I said, I promise if I go to prom, there will be plenty of pictures

Yeah, she's going to the dentist. If we miss the prom, I'll think of someway to make it up to her. But if she's dead, well, I'm a miracle worker, but raising the dead is a bit above my skill level right now.

Anyway, Gwen's dentist sounds like he knows his stuff, and she's being sent to a specialist, so it's all good. I don't really like that a lot of people here in the US can't afford medical care, but there's one good thing about competitive medical industry. It makes doctors work really hard to be damned good at thier job.

The abscess will be fine, I'm sure. If it isn't, ther'll be some dentists with chipped teeth.
