That's not the whole problem.
The problem seems to be the unlimited (or overly large) length allowed in the various profile info fields.
DV isn't a beurocratic society bent on precise data, as far as I'm aware.
I'd say it would be a better idea to limit the lengths of all the fields displayed in the user info header in the post display format. After all, custom titles are also one of the various fields available for being filled out in the User CP. Hence, limiting their length would result in the inability to create false user info fields, "Banned" signs and so on.
<------ lol works for me
DONT BAN ME!!!
edit: What the hell? It happened to me too...

Ok, all - here's the deal.
User set titles is a PRIVILEGE. Having some fun is one thing. Impersonating staff is another. I was kidding around up there, and sadly am now regretting it.
Anybody using their PRIVILEGES to impersonate staff is going to PERMANENTLY lose that privilege, starting now.

OK OK!
*Hurries up and changes title. *
I apologize for getting angry up there, but it never occurred to me that somebody would go so far as to add the stars to their avatar and do a perfect impersonation.
I'm going to re-instate Bad Wolf's ability to set his user title, because there was no warning about that.
Impersonating and spoofing staff has always resulted in an instant ban in the past. It's just not a good idea to do it.
As I said, though, from here on out we will be permanently taking the privilege of setting a user title away from people who abuse it. So yeah... have fun - but try being mature about it.
Thank you.

Well, reading this thread was fun while it lasted.
“There’s an economic concept known as a Positional Good in which an object is only valued by the possessor because its not possessed by others. The term was coined in 1976 by economist Fred Hirsch to replace the more colloquial but less precise ‘neener-neener’.”

It wasn't completely flawless, my name was still the same old blue. Sorry about that though, what I did was really uncalled for, especially using the character to bypass the censor. I'll try to keep any future urges to do something stupid like that under control.

Technically speaking there is no rule against impersonating as an adminastrator. I have read all of the rules and updates posted or currently in circulation and nowhere does it say you cannot do this. So why would you get banned for doing so or have the privelage taken away?
It is my opinion that you update the rules so people actually know all of what they can and cannot do.
Besides the majority of what we do here is purely out of fun and should be taken as such as fun. You can always check the staff list to see who is actually a staff member. And your names are red so it's quite easy to tell. And if you can't tell then clearly you are a new to the whole forum system and probably don't care anyways.
lol... Kaniaz fiasco... lol

I think I'll just stick with my already quite good custom title. But please, Merlock, let us guys have our fun with the Location field. It's not like it's really hurting anything. As far as I know nobody's really abusing it, and a lot use it to implement options the board would ideally already have, like number of lucid dreams or such.
Technically speaking, there is no rule keeping anybody on staff from instantly and permanently banning anybody who rubs them the wrong way.
We try HARD to avoid turning this into a muddling bureaucratic tangle of rules. We try hard to assume that our membership doesn't need those kinds of controls. We try hard to treat everybody like mature, decent human beings who aren't looking for loopholes to abuse.
Some people can't seem to handle that, KuRoSaKi - and those people really don't belong here. They need to go find some other community to pollute, because in the end their goal always seems to just be ruining things for everybody.

Why do so many people find pleasure in toeing the line, just knowing they are pressing their luck and skirting the rules?
Well, "people" who do that *cough* know darn well that they are trying to fool people with their actions. While some might think it's funny, it's really not all that amusing. Only irritating. I'm actually quite surprised that that kind of thing was tolerated as long as it was. I remember that sort of thing going on for quite a long time.
Sorry, technically speaking, there IS a rule against it. There's a thread somewhere about account spoofing and impersonating. And you've been here more than long enough to know that its not allowed and that a number of people have been served the banhammer for just such actions.
Not serious, but stealing someone else's title joke isn't really funny.
If those people change their title for the sole purpose that they know they are imposing as someone else, they are fully well aware that they will be upsetting other people. In fact, that is their intention. It goes like this, "I wonder what would happen if I changed my title to "Administrator", I would likely upset people, I wonder how they would react, I think I will do it." The only other reason to do so is to simply see if you automatically get banned for doing so.
With that said, I see no reason to impose as any staff or screw around with the self-title. You're lucky to have it in the first place.
