Johann Gutenberg (1398 - 1468).
Invented the first fast and practical printing press, this lead directly to the information explosion in Renaissance Europe.
Thought this would be a fun topic. The criteria is pretty open: your nomination can be for the most influential, most intelligent, most epitomizes humanity or if you fancy nominate worst/most evil person.

Anyway, the most influential person I can possibly think of is Newton. He was a pretty big part of history.

I'm going to go with Aristotle. He invented a lot of our modern sciences, and it would take nearly 2000 years before the Aristotelian universe was finally outdated. Name somebody else who had a direct influence on the course of history for 2000 years, I dare you.

even if tomorrow let's say, it was proven 100% that he NEVER existed, he was still one seriously influential person
going on about 2000 years now
He started a cult, Constantine started the religion.

Yeah, Jesus was a real person that's not a matter of belief. He is a historical figure, the whole son of god thing is whats disputed.

Actually almost all of the near-contemporary historical references to him have been discredited. Jesus doesn't come close to a great person, you might call some of his followers great, but Jesus himself was some hippy prophet running around Israel with a few hundred followers if he even existed at all.Originally posted by Cole5250

I would say Hitler would be among one of the greatest people ever. I mean, he went from a vagabond on the streets of Vienna to the most powerful man on Earth. I really don't see many people competing with him.
