      Which is more correct?

When explaining that you do not recall ever being somewhere, to say that "I have no memory of being here" or "I distinctly remember not being here"?

      Explain.

The first would mean your memory banks cannot find an instance of a memory of you being there. The second would imply that in a certain period of time you had memories of being elsewhere. So I guess the first would match since if you had amnesia, the first would be true even if you were there, and the second you can't conclude because you don't know where you were.

Well, you're describing your memories, so amnesia would just mean you have a lot less than you should.

The second statement means that you know you haven't been here, because you have been there, and the first that you haven't been here, because you do not have a memory of being here.

Depends on what connotation you want to give. The second one sounds more self-aware and certain. Better yet would be to say "I distinctly remember being somewhere else at that time."

The difference is, the first one gives a subjective truth, while the second one provides a hypothetical (testable) truth. The second one is more concrete, the first one is internal. In all practicality, they say the same thing. The strength and effects of the difference depends on the situation.

Technically speaking, neither is more true than the other as long as

      A) you have no memory of being in that place

      and

      B) you have a memories of being somewhere else

Regardless of whether you were there or not. Both statements are subjective and do not directly deal with the fact of you being in a certain place. They only deal with your memory regarding being in a certain place.

The first, is more likely to be true, though, because it postulates less.

I think the first one leaves more room for error on the person who has perceived.
Startling how much you CAN analyze this.

As others have said, if you correctly state "I have no memory of being here", then you do not have memory of being there. If you correctly state "I distinctly remember not being here", then you have memory of not being there. They aren't mutually exclusive.

I didn't say that they were mutually exclusive.
