But how many times have you ever heard the person specify which variable they're talking about? Are they asking if the glass is half full with water or air?

If it's half-full with water, the air is half-empty. If you're emptying the water, halfway, it's half-full with air.

The whole half full/ half empty thing is rediculous anyway. It has nothing to do with being optomistic or pessimistic, it just depends on how you talk. I've always been a pessemist, and to me a glass is half full - it doesn't mean i'm optomistic, it's just how I say it.

This is basically what I think.

I have a VERY pessimistic friend. His outlook on life is. "Not only is the glass half empty, someone has put poison in it as well"

I prefer to think of it in a more Zen-like matter. "The glass just is"
