    Tree

I'd like to think that I was a tree in a past life. Perhaps that would explain my fasination with them. I try to not take them for granted. I like to look at them as though it was my first time. If I look long enough, they lose their name. Tree soon has no meaning in my mind. I truely do see them for the first time. I'm compelled to walk up and touch them. I know what a tree feels like but every time its different. As they dance in the wind I feel drawn to them, as though they are calling me. I'm so content sitting under their shade for hours at a time. The leaves are like faces, each one different and acting on its own. They are born and die, just like us. They breath, drink and even bleed. They age with time and grow stronger by the day. Some day I hope to be as strong as them. Some day I hope to be one of them. When I die, I want a tree to be planted over my grave so my soul can move up and live within the tree forever. I want to provide the shade for the next wondering person. I would try to hold strong even in the darkest storms of our lives. I want to be a tree.

    no one will ever know
    where the flowers go
    when they are gone
not one day goes by that i don't
    know that i'm dying

i've found that i can do that with many objects... people even. it's damn fun... when someone's talking just look at them... i mean look. forget all you know about them, look at them as if you've never seen them before and this is your first impression of them. being high helps, but it's not vital for this to work.

trees are cool. here is a poem i wrote about a tree...

In the land where the time on the watches of men-
is different than that of the earth's.
In the time of the land (called the earth) has been-
Filled with the passings of moons, myst and mearth.
Was a tree, a tree that blew free.
Away from the dark, away from all harm. To stay in the sun.
Branches reach high where the angels hark-
Calling out the names of the found.
Yet the leaves, they are dull,
Consumed by the day and it's lashings brought on to the full.
The leaves they would pay just to have a free day-
Away from the dark, away from all harm-
To stay, O to stay in the sun.
    w w w . m a r k f u l t o n . c o m

The dream is real, my friends. The failure to realize it is the only unreality.

This is a very interesting topic. I've noticed what adidas is talking about...it's a very enlightening experience to just observe. I've always been that way, most children are, but then they lose that quality just as they lose most other childish qualities. But I've always believed that I'm very unchanged from my child-self.
Just recently we had oral reports in SCIENCE. I would sit there and, like you said adidas, really LOOK. I would begin to see others for who they are now, not as a matured manifestation of the child I've always known them as. And suddenlly I would begin to not recognize anyone. Perhaps this is why I refused to do mine - the fear of being subjected to their stares. The coming-to of my self-consciousness has only served to make me want to hide. I know it's not the healthiest disposition...but...I'm just so weary of others looking, even though I know in my mind that none of them really look like we're talking about. Maybe someday the world won't seem so scary...

Slightly OT...this is also how I came to see someone's aura for the very first time. I told the story once, but I was in 4th grade and I didn't like my teacher at all - she must've been 60 or 65 and was very grumpy. On this particular day, she criticized my math assignment saying I wrote my numbers too small...so I sat back down and just stared at her...wondering how someone could be that way. I don't recall experiencing the sensations that I described above - instead I began to see an invisible, distorting energy around her... it made my eyes feel tired like after looking at a computer/TV for too long... the best way for me to desribe it is that it transcended perspective. Like when i was closer its outline was much smaller, and back in my seat, it was much broader - as if it itself was always the same size to me, but not in relation to her. It also dimmed when i looked away and then pulsated back looking to her again.

Well, sorry. Anyway... yes, I've always had these strange fascinations. I've never been the best socializer or associator. But that's just as well because I enjoy my alone time in which I feel like I'm in my own little world...I just observe and learn so much. It's not like there are any people around here that share like mind with me anyway, so it's best for me if I stay at arm's length.

    Trees are fasinating!
It is sad at times when you can have an 85 year old tree and it takes a developer 85 second to cut it down!

will.i.am Sound like you should have a job with the forestryservice.

I had an Ld a couple of weeks ago where all the trees in my yard were brilliant in color. I just sat there and observed. the next day I was more aware of the beauty of the trees.

    Nice poem, Astounded

One thing I love about my home is that when we take people out to see the sights, one of the most important places we go is "the tree". They are wonderful things. I find myself imagining them as life slowly growing. So different, but so alive.

im such a tree hugger I don't even like to use trees for christmas. you know how long it takes for a tree to grow tall enough to be a christmas tree? seems like such a waste for a decoration. it also amazes me that people actually think a tree can live without its roots, school has failed humanity.

the plant kingdom has always fascinated me, but trees take the cake. one time I sat on a giant tree who's bark was curved and nearly parallel to the ground. the tree was massive, probably weighing what, tons? and it just amazed me how something related to mere grass can grow so tall and out live me by hundreds of years. thats probably what amazes me most about trees is their amazing life span. they're like passages of time.

other plants in comparison, only exist as a fleeting moment

dear Lord, this tree is older than the earth!! *lol* if the spruce trees cheat death by growing a clone body before the old body has died, does this mean, they have actually traveled over the thousands of years?

I always thought raking was mean. The trees spend so much time growing those leaves, not just for summer's food, but winter's insurance. The leaves are supposed to die by their mother, and nourish the sleeping tree so that it may self-regenerate.

There's science behind this (leaving the leaves instead of raking them). But emotion gives it meaning.

Also, I feel that way about fish. They have personalities, truly.

    You tell 'em!

I'd never thought about raking. But then, I've never raked very much.
