..something extreme? you hear people say things like, "The cold wind against my face makes me feel alive."
..not me. for me, just looking up at the sky makes me feel alive.
or sitting down with a hot cup of coffee..(in my case, probably a Caramel Macchiato :0)
or walking down the street, or something as simple as looking in the mirror...
this "alive" feeling I believe is probably a sudden burst of awareness. and I believe, for most people, it would take something as extreme as a gush of cold wind in the face to cause such awareness as opposed to a lucid-dreamer!
so I'd like to know...what makes you feel alive?

naturals are what we call people who did all the right things accidentally
I find that I need a balance of everything. Sadness, happyness, anger, joy, pain, fun...
If I feel too happy for too long I figure that something's wrong with me and suspect that pain will soon follow (it's the pattern of my life), so I do a few "doces" of pain by doing crazy stunts where I get hurt and feel like a moron.

I think you are right. With awareness comes a lot of other good things.
If you allow yourself to sleepwalk through life without becoming or trying to become aware, how much have you missed.
But I guess if you do not care then you reaaly are not missing anything. Just in the peoples eyes that are aware. They say ignorance is bliss.
What makes me happy, You sy looking up at the sky. I can relate,I like to look up at the clouds and ,well just that look -at them without a worry in the world. Even if it is brief.
Everything![]()
Also remind yourself that we're not talking about "being alive" in literal sense as in "not being dead" we are talking about "sense of existance"(existancw wherever),
"sense of presence" , "awareness. So every single thing you lay your eyes apon, or everything single thing you even feel with your eyes closed, or even things you dont feel or touch.just..sense should ultimately make you feel aware, as it confirms your presence in the ever existant and ever lasting presence of the all, which is everything.
Quite a simple concept actually ^_^

Maybe I am missing the point but I always feel alive.
Getting a really good buzz at three in the morning and looking at the stars on a clear night. Then realizing that I'm looking into the past, and feeling so so so very small. That's when it really hits me, I'm alive.
I sort of agree with will.i.am
Sitting on a rock by the beach at night - looking into the stars
And you start feeling... well... philosophical about your place in time and space.
Thats the feeling of being alive, for me
Being alive...
To me it's realizing that in all eternity of human existance, no matter how 'civilized' and 'progressed' we may become, and no matter how many new things that are taught, discovered, and destroyed, we will never, not one person, know everything. The concept of our limited knowledge makes me at ease but uncomfortable at the same time. Perhaps it's the curiousity that maybe we are really, unimportant and overshadowed by something bigger that makes me uncomfortable, and the ease that maybe we are better off not knowing anything.
Think about it for a moment. We are a speck in this universe. We have fought primitively, even today, for something as rediculous as land and 'power', not realizing that we may just be wiped out any day by some cataclysmic event, or brought to nothing-ness in an instant. Some people do not realize that there are bigger and more spectacular things than a roughly circular sphere almost 13,000 kilometers in diameter with a breathable atmosphere. Big deal. I'll bet there are a million more like it, some with sentient beings, some with microorganizisms, some completely destroyed. I'm not talking about god or something here, I'm talking about existance itself. There is no physical way to feel non-existance, so who would care if we didn't exist? That is creepy...
If there were no humans left, we could no longer ponder our existance--but if there were no humans left, we would no longer realize our existance.

pain: i don't remember ever feeling more alive than when i was watching my fingers dangling by threads of skin.
love: there's something about driving to or away from someone you truly care for. i can't explain it, it just gives me a rush.
art: any kind. books, music, paintings, sculptures, movies... when i get overwhelmed with art i'm on another level.
creation: when i create something, be it a piece of art or a weld i feel a sense of accomplishment and purpose.
hunting: the feeling of a connection to nature is overwhelming. hunting an animal with senses that are far superior to yours with a bow and arrow is unexplainable.
danger: anytime i can hear my heart pounding in my head is a good moment. i.e. boxing.

That is a hand?Sorry I asked!
The things that make me feel human (or perhaps more than human) are fairly simple things, like nature or music.
I live in Australia and I deeply love this country. I live real close to Mount Ainslie and I have a lot of memories of walking through the golden brown and powdery blues and greens of the bush.
Also, there are some songs that I hear or play sometimes that just melt me, and that's a great feeling.
. Pondering existence and what else is out there doesnt do much for me, in fact a lot of times it's kinda frustrating, like a bubble of thought in my mind that Im fearful to touch lest it pops.

we're talking about feeling alive not human. two completely different things.
Ignorant bliss is an oxymoron; but so is miserable truth.
The things that make me feel alive would have to be waking up in the morning knowing I have a good life, Listening to music, helping someone, reading a book, taking a walk, and when I write poetry or stories.

Listening to something that all of a sudden hits me like a ton of bricks like someone dying or being hurt or something moving like that makes me feel that i am alive.

I used to remember at a really young age, maybe about 4 or 5, I would always look at my hands in fear and I would say or think to myself "Oh No, I'm Alive!" Because I new at that age that I was actually living and new I would have to die to go back. And I feared death since a very young age.
Now that was a fearfull way to feel alive.
When I dream, theres always a
little girl playing in the dirt, that
turns to me and says "Why are
you here? .... Are you blind like
me?"
What I've found
What I've known
Never shined to me what I've shown
Never be
Never free
I wish to see what might have been...

Giving birth to my child is the meaning of life for me. I created and witnessed a new life, a being, with feelings and needs come into this world. I think all procreation of any kind is a sign that we are all alive and for a very short time.
