This is a painting I did of a tree, going through all 4 seasons. Each canvas is 20inx24in and each season has its own style of painting. One has a "Starry Night" version (Summer), while the others are all in simple dabs of brushes (Winter), basic painting (Spring) and my favourite... using my fingers only (Fall).

This is my favourite of my four season that I painted, Fall. I did not use any brushes on this image, only my fingers.

      Enjoy!

Here are two others I did, this first one 'CandleLight', was my first real attempt at painting. And, it goes along with THIS poem. It's red smoke rings spell "S O U L", fyi.

This one was just a quick one I put together, not too fancy.

Wow, I love the one with the four seasons! It's so original, and it looks beautiful together!

Please tell me you have that on a wall, at least somewhat near each other...

Wow those are really good. I love the four seasons one. I looked at it before I read what you said, and I totally recognized the style of Van Gogh. The others are really good too. Finger painting sounds like fun.

Hi MercurialDream, I replied in your incense thread. At least I think it was your thread. I like these paintings.

Bob Ross and Jerry Yarnell are great art teachers. If you have PBS Bob Ross might be on that and he's a good place to start. His technique has limits but for joy and fun you can't beat Bob. He died a few years ago and I don't paint in his style, because I don't much like his trees but I do love his color pallette and mountains, but I watch Bob when I can it is relaxing and like meditation. 'The Zen of Bob' :p

Yarnell http://www.yarnellart.com is for when you are ready to get more serious. He is on BYU tv. Direct TV has BYU, I don't know what tv system you have or even if you are in the USA.

I paint with acrylics but if you want to try oils there are these kind called water mixable. Winsor and Newton makes a good brand called Artisan. You can thin the paint with water instead of using terpentine and you can wash the brushes in water and soap to clean them. The only time you use nasty chemicals with these paints is for varnishing and any special techniques. I have some water oils but I prefer acrylics as once dry they are practically nuke proof. I got one of my acrylic paintings soaked with bleach water once and it didn't harm the paint. And the varnishes don't seem to be as nasty as in smell or being bad for your skin and it all dries really fast.

And, as always, I recommend drawing books by Andrew Loomis. The books are not being published any more and are worth hundreds on ebay. They were first published in the '40's but he still has loving fans. This link is to his Figure Drawing For All Its Worth book: http://www.spacejack.org/gallery/loomis/

And a question: You said the size of canvas but didn't note what type of paint. Is this acrylic? Oil? Watercolor? Egg Tempera? Poster paints?

I used to love Bob Ross! I watched just for fun even tho I never paint. I loved his voice and his "happy little trees". He made it look easy.
