the queen faun rescued me and showing me her planet, where the animals all gather eagerly awaiting her arrival. She had never been there yet, but she created the planet.

I had been studying dream yoga and just trying to understand it. I wanted to arise in an "illusory body". Traditionally the Tibetans develop some intense visualization skills so that they visualize themselves as a very detailed Deity and their whole environment as the Mandala of the Deity. This is a magical practice of realizing the Divinity of our true identity which is Buddha nature and also to realize that our environmnet, our world is an expression or emanation of our nature. Just like a dream is a product of our mind. They practice this in Waking Life and in Dreaming.

So I had been studying this but had no experience of it so the next lucid dream I had I tried visualizing myself as a deity. But being an unrepentant Pagan I decided to embody Pan! Instantly I felt horns sprout out of my head and my legs become goat legs. It was hard at first to keep my balance but I got the hang of it. I walked over to a pool of water and looked at my reflection. I WAS a faun but I don't think I became the actual Pan!

But I painted that picture the next week. I wanted to capture both the dark and the light and the power of the union of darkness and light. Of fear and surrender. Of attraction and repulsion. And the wisdom of the lucidity beyond all opposites.

In this picture Pan's right hand is raised to dispel fear and in his other hand he carries the chalice of life, a gift from the Goddess. The dove of peace flies in the upper right hand corner and the serpent of knowledge slithers through his chest, maybe in the water of the pool. He has an intense look in his eyes that is both serious and light. He also embodies both male and female qualities.

However, I don't like this print. I sold the original and this is a photograph of a print. Also this is just 3/4 of the picture.

Do you know anywhere online where I can find out more about this practice? If not, that's okay, you gave a good description as it is.

You may not have been Pan, but it's still nice to transform into something that holds some sort of personal meaning.

You did a good job capturing this. I liked this painting because it reminded me of a dream character I met that was both very masculine and feminine at the same time.

      http://openpdf.com/ebook/namkhai-crystal-pdf.html

Scroll down until you find "Dream Yoga and the Practice of Natural Light" by Namkhai Norbu. It is a .pdf file that you can download.

When you are done reading that, read about the Six Yogas of Naropa. One of the six yogas is dream yoga.

Also, I am sure you already checked this out:

I love the lines on the first one. Illusory... almost dreamlike.

I pick up a half-eaten copy of a book by Neil Gaiman, and decide this is all his fault.

Thank you. Yes, it does connect. See post number 6.

I'd like to add, that the practice of dream yoga in the anuttara tradition is to transform karmic vision with Divine vision, to transform karmic self-image into Divine self-image.

I like your dragon man, and I hope what you say is true, that we all have our own dragon. I know a lot of people see dragons as monsters, as evil, but that has never been the case for me. I think it may have something to do with my past, what I call, "hereditary memory." It's like I just know that the usual portrayal of dragons is wrong. I love the Dragon Jouster Series, Loved the ones in Harry Potter too and really enjoyed How To Train Your Dragon. These seemed more like what a dragon should be, to me, from some deep area inside me.

Thank you for sharing your excellent art!
