      Donnie Darko

Ok I looked and didn't see any other threads about this movie..

Who's seen Donnie Darko? And what are your thoughts about this movie if you have seen it?

I absolutely love it.. the first time I saw it I was completely blown away and just sat staring at my computer screen for a few minutes in complete awe. All the ideas behind it are just amazing. Quite thought provoking I might add.

I didnt really see what the fuss was about with this movie. Dont get me wrong it was good' entertainment' it was a good movie for that. It didnt have the depth to make it an intelligent and classic movie. The sub-plot was ok, but it just seemed like it could have gone deeper into the waters of surrealism, it just seemed to put its feet into the water then jump out again. I think the problem was it didnt want to alienate the 'mainstream' audience. I would love to watch the Directors Cut though, to see how its changed.

David Lynch is a classic Director, if you havent seem Mullholland Drive, you should check that out for a good movie

Btw is that image from Neon Genesis Evangelion, classic Anime

      Have you seen Lain?

      donnie darko

Yeah.. I can see how they could have easily taken it even farther..but didn't. And I agree that that's probably because they didn't want to lose the majority...
I want to see the Director's Cut too.. I heard from some people that it explains too much and leaves nothing to the imagination.. *shrug* but I know I'll see it anyway.

I haven't seen Mullholland Drive or Lain yet. But I heard about Mullholland Drive in another thread and a lot of people were saying how good it was.. so I'm gunna have to hunt that one down.

      What's Lain about?

*not sure about the anime thing.. I just saw the avatar and like it.. heh*

It looks like a character from an amine called Neon Genesis

If you like strange and sureal cinema try and check out David Lynch, his movies are great food for thought. esp Mullholland Drive.

Lain is about anything and everything you can imagine (lol) its a fantastic anime that asks the viewer to come up with their own conclusions about the narrative. Its very clever and you can see alot of Lucid Dreaming influences in the plot.

there is a cool web-site about Lain if you are into Anime:- http://www.cjas.org/~leng/lain.htm

I saw promos for it, and thought it was going to be weird, but it ended up having a lot to do with space-time, which I love, and although it was, well obviously, a bit dark, it was really cool. I liked it.

I liked the movie alot. I saw the director's cut. I can't say it made sense in a linear way at the end. Without spoilers I can just say the plot is a spin off of the famous philosophy problem called the Grandfather Problem: "If you went back in time and killed your grandfather, would you ever be born?" If you were never born you couldn't go back in time to kill your grandfather, but if you were born then you wouldn't have a grandfather and so could never have been born.
listen: there's a hell of a good universe next door: let's go.

Donnie Darko was pretty cool... the person who told me to see it said it was about a giant evil metal rabbit that travelled in time. Bit of a surprise.

I saw the directors cut too and I much prefer the original.

      Good movie.

This movie is my personal favorite. It has a little bit of everything in my opinion. Teenagers can relate to it quite easily, and along with this the plot is just abstract enough to make you think. Only after having viewed it an upwards of 6 times did I begin to gather all of the intricacies of the plot. From what I have seen of David Lynch (just Eraserhead) he is crazy. The thing with Donnie Darko for me was that it was drew the balance between many different elements to create an original, and in my opinion, thought provoking movie.

Yeah.. i really enjoyed the film but i must say after seeing it the first time i sat there and thought : 'er.. what?'

But after seeing it a few more times and checking out the website it all became clear. That is until i have to explain it to someone then i end up getting in a complete mess.
