    Entertainment< or lack there of?

All my friend think I am a bit odd. Actually for many reasons. (we can forget about those )
Coming up at the end of this month it will be two entire months with out watching television. My wife has joined me in this too.
We have watched two movies, but not televised TV.

There is so much more out there than the SHIT they rot your brain with on television.
FuXXIng reality shows. When will it end.

As I sat aside a three foot pile of books to read, an empty art table and a guitar, I have found my resources can be spent much more productively.

Kudos to you! That isn't easy.

I admit to being pretty hooked on a few shows, but I think I manage to limit my watching fairly well. My wife is a total TV junkie, though. She likes to try to pull me into some of her shows.

    You're just insane

But seriously I agree there's nothing on Tv, I only watch a few shows, proberly less then 5 shows. Plus there is far too much reality stuff on Tv, and more then enough celebrity based shows.

I barely watch any TV anymore, it was adverts that finally drove me away. I occasionly watch comedy when im feeling down, nothing like an episode of scrubs to get you smiling again , but yeah very little for me.

I watch Hell's Kitchen and So You Think You Can Dance. :p I have to be there for every show.

Lately I've been watching Father Ted and Black Books but not on TV.

Haha, Father Ted is awesome. I watched an episode of that on the 'net, the one with the milk float that's rigged with a bomb.

I saw some Black Books episodes online and went and bought the series before I realized there was an even better site online to watch them on. Bah.

    boob tube

It did help that I cut to basic cable. :p
I must admit I would watch the weather channel and the discover channel.
Oh. The history channel > Modern Marvels is the best!

I am busy with work now as well.
I hope to keep this going in the winter. I have an unbelievable amount of books and magazines I want to read.

I agree, most TV sucks. I'm a huge fan of standup comedy, so I watch lots of Comedy Central, with the intent of discovering good talent,a dn there are a couple of shows, but I definitely steer clear of most reality tv and the likes. It's actually not that hard to avoid the dumb TV shows hehe.

The other approach is to not pay for cable, and just get netflix. Then, you pretty much only watch what you want, and it comes out cheaper.

Only get 4 channels over here in the UK. Luckily there's some decent dramas on the BBC and C4 often has some slightly intelligent stuff.

Anybody else in the UK seen the state of ITV lately though? Jeez, the crap content just keeps going up and up, it's all just so tacky...

It's all better than American trash though. I remember when I spent a week in SF, and the average standard of telly over there... Ew. Even the news channels spend half of the time being biased and the other half just being dumb.

I don't watch a lot of TV either.

But I watch CNN Headlines news in the morning while I'm eating my cereal, and then flip it to The Weather Channel Local on the 8's

The only actual TV show I watch is American Idol ( I know), but other than that, I don't watch any weekly shows because of my dynamic work schedule.

If I could pick 5 channels to have, they would be:

    1. The Discovery Channel
    2. CNN
    3. The Weather Channel
    4. National Geographic
    5. E! (lol)

We have at least eight to ten people that would want to go storm chasing.
Maybe some day. How cool would that be.
Stock up on the cheerios and kix and head out.

My favorite cereal these days is Strawberry Fields or Special K (the kind with strawberries), but not like my parents know that... so they stock up on things I liked in my teens. Like cocoa rise crispies. Don't get me wrong, those are great, but I have since moved on!!

Howie. If I were your wife and saw you make heart-faces at people, I'd have a hissy fit. Bad boy! :p

    hehe.

I really only flirt with Burnsy because we are both happily married, so we know where it's at.
    Well...OK, a few others too.

i agree with you. Most tv is junk. I only really watch the news, eastenders, coronation street and holby city.
Other than that, i've got plenty of other hobbies!

TV is the prime source for news in the most descriptive form possible: narrative + video footage.

So, I don't watch it much for shows (though sometimes I just want to relax with a cup of tea so I sit down and watch a movie that is on) but I certainly watch the news.

So, aye, it doesn't do to completely and utterly stop watching TV. It doesn't only contain "crap that rots your brain".

I never ever watch tv either. I haven't for about 6 months now. Every now and then my family will tell me about a new series that's on and I'll think, "hey, that sounds good, I'll watch that," but I never remember! I only catch the news if I'm making my dinner when somebody else is watching it. I don't necessarily think tv is bad or brain-rotting or anything, I just have better things to do.

National news > grand scale of BS

I pay to get the local news paper. This gives me insight on more local issues in or near my own domicile.
The national news is crap. It is biased too. Albeit, if something BIG enough does happen I will certainly know about it after they play it for ten straight days in a row.
Plus you get the funnies with the paper. :p

I hear the best place to check unbiased (or at least LESS biased) news is on the BBC website. I really like yahoo because I like the layout, but it's not the best in terms of accurate information.

I think you are right Mes.
I often listen to the BBC on NPR and they do seem very unbiased.
