I would if it wasn't for the bloody monthly cost, that and I might get RO instead.
Has anyone played/plays it?
I am so addicted to that game, for those who don't know it is a online MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) which basically means that you go online log onto FFXI and interact with thousands of other people at the same time, fight them or form parties with them and stuff.
That aside, DOES anyone play it? I'm on Hades server if anyone does..
Made this thread because Doc is gonna get it soon and i thought it would be cool if we could have a DV clan xD

RO sucks, FF11 has 10x better graphics.Originally posted by Alex D

And the monthly cost isnt THAT big.
Well graphics don't really mean much to me, I just like a fun game, which from what I hear, XI really isn't much of.
I could go on for ages saying how much fun it is and why, but i won't.Originally posted by Alex D

Just take it from me that that is not true.
So long as it's NOTHING like World of Warcraft. I hate that game with a passion.

I want to say that this may be the best game of all time (even better then DWIII, and FFVII)
FFXI has a storyling that makes all other novels and games I have ever played look weak in comparrison.
FFXI is a story about the last age. No BS here folks, I am not pulling legs, the games traces the roots of modern religion and race. I have rarely seen such epic attempts at understanding modern reality save for the holy Bible, The Lord of the Rings, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the Koran, the Tao Te Ching, all the varioues "isms" and "ics" and every other religions mythic manuscript from Beowulf to Hopi, I know few pieces of lore that exist today that are as important and pertinent to modern society as FFXI.
~and I am only 1/2 way through the storyline!~
I encourage al with computers or playstation IIs to run out and pick this game immediately. I will buy you a world pass, I will help twink you, whatever, you need to read this Japanese modern epic before you no longer have a chance. Square-Enix understands myth and legend, and many important key aspects to lucidity and consciousness may be found in this grand work of art, as their lore extends far back into our own time beyond some cultural stereotypes pervading the sources of truthful english information today.
FFXI is the deepest, hardest, longest game thus made. WoW is trite, EQ2 is silly, with the exception of perhaps Gemstone (all text mud) you will not learn more from any gaming experience -also save for Everquest on Sullon back in the day, when i leearned about humanity and murder- then you will learn in FFXI.
Whoever finally understands and wins FFXI in the end will be a future world power. Many players already engage in strategies that dwarf current corporate marketing programs of global consumerism.... Links and Guilds such as these will tear the current dynamics of corporate politics asunder to render them clean of the greed and desire now lol what are games and imagination and dreams really? anyways XI pwned me, very good game.

I love X-2, it's a great game. The thing about it is though, it's not by any means a normal Final Fantasy. The storyline is far from epic, but that's the idea, it's not supposed to be. When X left off, Yuna was all depressed. X-2 shows her finally being happy along with introducing interesting new characters. The game is extreemly camp, but to be honest that theme seems to fit Spira. Depending on how you play it, it can be a basic 'Yay save the world' Final Fantasy, or it can be somthing a lot more, you'll see what I mean as you play.
The battle system is the best in the series IMO, it takes ATB and changes it slightly to make it into somthing very different. It's hard to explain, it just works differently. The dress sphere idea is great too, being able to change jobs in the middle of a fight means you cn do the fight again and it'll never seem the same. The side missions are great, so are the real missions.
All in all it's a brilliant game, just nothing like an normal Final Fantasy.
(And Rikku, of course, makes the gameso much better just by being there)
i got that game + a network adapter and learned that it wouldn't work with my current internet setup...

I'm still pissed the game ddn't come out in Yuna and Rikku versions like it was going to. Oh well, there's talk about Rikku's story at the moment, so with any luck smthing will come out of that because as we all know:Originally posted by pOOp

X2 is pretty cool, but unfortunately not a patch on X. People seem to like non-linear games, but I hate them. I've had X2 for a year, and am still only half way through it, but that's because I got sick of the story (or lack thereof), still a good game though - I'll get round to finishing it one of these days.
I've been meaning to check out FF XI, but the monthly fees do put me off, how much are they btw? If it's cheap maybe I'll get it, and kiss the last shreds of my social life goodbye...
You're supposed to go through all the sub missions and find all the sub-characters stories, you get some fun new missions come up if you do that.Originally posted by Lobe

I have played FFXI for about 9 months, I was a 52 black mage on iFrit, but I gave up about two weeks ago to switch over to WoW
I personally think WoW is alot better... I miss the japanese-ness of FFXI, you can tell that WoW is american a mile away, but the graphics, gameplay, and over all dynamics are worth it.
WoW is alot easier aswell, you spend less time systematicly killing monsters for experiance and more time doing quests, mainly because you get experiance for quests in WoW.
Death has alot less of an impact on WoW, it's more of an inconvenience now, I don't like it so much, yea it's easier cos you don't loose exp, but it makes people careless cos it doesn't matter that much if you get wasted....
Still enjoying it though. But for all the more lifelike characters, I do miss the Mithra...![]()
I have a friend who is a Pld in WoW and he has spent way more time w/ that then I have w/ FFXI.
I think most ppl say FFXI is long because they suck, and can't play final fantasy, and don't understand elementals =P
FFXI is a bunch of adventures looking to play with their freinds.
wow is a bunch of soloers griefing who happen to play a MMORPG.
why play a mmorpg if you hate partying????????????? rofl.
FFxi is more progressive and intellectual. I mean, FFXI is supposed to be ancient history. There is no doubt that it takes place in what would be Tolkien's 2nd age, before the great flood. The story line is perhaps the most innovative idea since FF7 suggesting that Sephiroth and Messiah are genetic variences that occur in the parabolic climax of an age. FFXI, in many ways, is also a story of how our society is crumbling. Everything from the inflation in the online economy to the pseudo-crystal warriors out to slay all civilized life. Not to mention the multi-cultural auto-translators. I have Japanese friends and I can't speak a word. I send emails to a friend in Korea. I have friends who speak 7 different languages and we are all learning to speak One type of mish-mashed neo-h4x0r speak -- you are falling behind.
SO yah. Play Wow. You'd be better off w/ XI, NwN, EQ. UO, Gemstone, and a whole handful of other games. IF you want Pvp, play a mud, not a graphical. Although, FFXI Ballista is pwn, I enjoy Brd/Nin very much^^
but yeah, sorry to be harsh, but i have lost friends to Wow and don't like it. It's too easy. But what matters is that you get what you want out of it and have fun. =D peace

My brother just got this for christmas today. Sounds like it's gonna be alot of fun.
I've really only just started playing, so far it's nice.
And as for the WoW discussion, different people have different tastes. I was hooked on WoW this past summer, until I ran out of money and Guildwars came along

I'm getting final fantasy XI when my Xbox360 finally gets here. I am seriously looking forward to it, and final fantasy XII.
So far I've only played final fantasy IX and VIII, I never finished VIII sinse it wasn't mine, but I've got around 500 hours of game time on IX. It's my favourite game ever.
You should check out the link in my sig', I haven't started secondlife yet but I plan to soon.
