Yeah I've already tried that. It's really good. At first everyone in my family was sceptical, then my sister tried it and she was converted. Then my dad tried it and he was converted. Finally my mum tried it after much encouragement and she was converted. And all it took was my open mind.

Is there anything more like this? It is awesome!
I must be missing something here
why is this so awesome?

There was a lot of avant-garde artists in the late 60's - mid 70's that experimented with Dummy head recording
Can did an EP called Flow Motion
Also, I think Pink Floyd did some stuff with dummy heads
Also, if you like this sort of thing (personally, I do, but it's not commercially successful by any means)
there was a whole uber geeky quadraphonic vinyl thing available
http://www.quadraphonicquad.com/
They had this at the Ministry of Sound a few years back
and you could actually bounce the beats off of four speakers
pretty neat stuff
The invisibl Skratch Pickles (group of hip-hop DJ's, no-ones ever heard of them, so don't worry) actually made a mixer that utilised quadraphonic vinyl

Anyway, this sort of stuff has always been interesting to sound engineers and music producers
but the public aren't that interested

It kind of scared me at first, actually. I'm the last one up late at night and... just that sound of someone coming through a door, even one that's not actually there.
I've heard the matchbox one, but this was... wow.

I think that the Virtual Haircut is great. The closest i've heard of something like it in the past, is at the beginning of the song Remember Me by Eminem were it sounds like he's spray painting the back of your head. The whisper on the Barber one scared the crap out of me!

none of the links on the thread worked for me
All I got was:the folks that hosted our server got upset with the content of the site and deleted it. If you want to be told where the new site is please email dean[at]3gpvids dot com and i will let you know.*EDIT* ok, I think this must be the same thing you're talking about virtual haircut
It's kinda neat, just not sure what the point is. Just audio recorded with stereo mic, no?

Thanks Clarity, still no dice though. It's ok, I think it's probably being blocked by the IT department here at work. No biggie, I bet the link I posted is for the same file.
WOW!! Never heard anything like it. It´s as real as it can get.
I want more!!!!! It whould be awesome to go to sleep while listening to this kind of sound. Like some calm sound, like birds, waterfalls, etc.

Dude
Think of this effect in video games
That would be killer, no?
I seem to remember dolby being able to emulate this somehow
HOLY FUCKING HELL.
Shit, how the fuck? How did they do that? I mean... the door at the start, that's just a noise played in a headphone just like any other, how come this one made me actually wonder for about a minute why my door had just made a noise? ._O
Oh my god, that is amazing! holy crap haha
DREAM ON

Like this --> Stereo Microphone techniquesShit, how the fuck? How did they do that?
Wow.
Heard something like that a couple of times I think, but it is still very impressive. Obv. impediment is the headphones requirement.
New Scientist (unreliable trash that it is) reported a speaker system that can deliver different sounds to different people in the same room... wonder whether that would do stereo as good as this needs.
oooh, the bag-over-the-head part was cool, and the snippy scissor sounds made chills run down my spine.
The rest was pretty "eh", though, but the chills made it all worth it.

This isn't the best one i've heard, its ok but there is this holophonic sound i've heard in which this guy walks around a room shaking a box of matches, sounds way more realistic than this. I'll provide a link if anyone is interested, it can send shivers up your spine when listening to it.

I heard that one too, LS - it does sound good, but it got annoying after a while. I kept expecting to hear something new.
Yes, this technology does exist - I've experienced it at a convention last month in Chicago. It's done using directional speakers. The speakers emit the sound into a cone-like shape. Anything outside of that cone is silent, but as soon as you step into the cone (hot spot) you hear the sound perfectly.New Scientist (unreliable trash that it is) reported a speaker system that can deliver different sounds to different people in the same room

I actually have a song which sounds at the start like the guy singing is talking behind you.
And this is pretty cool.
