Best 5 part trilogy I've ever read!

After reading the first book a year ago I finally got my hands on the other ones-- They're awesome!
Hilarious.
Eccentric.
Delightful.
Anyone else read all five?

In other words, yes. I freaking love those books. I reference them whenever possible. See Seeker's resignation thread...

I actually just finished reading the books a couple of weeks ago. I thought they were awesome; one of the better series I've read in quite a while. I still have yet to see the movie, but I hear it's pretty good.
And Mos Def's in it. C'mon..... how could it not be?![]()

Ugh, the movie blew ass and definitely did not do the Awesomeness that is Douglas Adams' genius justice.
But I guess everyone has their own opinions, and don't let me sway you.
Ps. Mos Def is teh win as well

Yea the movie was rather crap. Funny as it was but totally beat hands down by the books.

Hmmm...movie doesn't seem to be too great, eh Elis D? Oh well. I think after reading all five books, I kind of have to see the movie. Netflix to the rescue!
And if it really does suck, then fie on the director, 'cause he obviously didn't stay true to the books that well.

Yeah, I also agree that the movie didn't get close to how good the book was. The movie was just weird.

Yeh.
The movie pretty much only stayed with the first book, changed a ton of stuff in it though and made it pretty bad.

Brilliant book.... really shit film!
I was so excited when I saw the film trailer after recently finishing the "5 part trilogy" but it wasn't worth it.
HitchiHickers Guide is deffinatly one of my favourate series! It shall remain a classic.
(You should watch the old BBC TV Mini series, I watched it on DVD before I read the books - it follows the first 2 books loosely but it is far better than the film.)

I read the complete Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, which had all five books in one. Fucking hilarious, I don't think a novel has every made me crack up like that one. Such an intelligent narrative, the jokes were ahead of their time.![]()

Achievements:
I find it extremely difficult to believe that there was no over arching plan or purpose to them having read them all, even though I know there wasn't. He managed to tie everything together so elegantly in the end that I feel he must have been channeling a parallel universe or something.
For those who are speaking ill of the movie though, keep in mind that Douglas Adams wrote it, as well as all of the other spawns of the books (mini series, computer game, etc.). In fact, the books themselves are changed from the original version, which was a radio show. You may not have liked it (the movie) but it is more or less exactly as he intended. I think whenever the story changed media, he intentionally altered it so that it would fit the medium it was being portrayed in.

I think I'll read this next week. If it is as good as everyone says, I'll probably finish it over the weekend. I enjoyed the movie, but like any movie based off a book, it has to be appreciated as its own entity. You really can't compare any book to its movie counterpart.
