Thread: Idea(s) For A Dream Story (could Everyone Look Plz?)

I'd like to see an epic adventure spanning many thousands of years. Maybe starting back in Atlantis and going forward to a bright future maybe not too far from now in which the common idea is lucid dreaming.

You could have a group, kind of like the nights templar only slightly sideways that guard the concept of lucid dreaming and make sure that the flame is carried forward and that each generation learns how to lucid dream.

This group could fight battles throughout the ages, there would be no lack of material to use. I'm thinking of a historical fiction, where there are just enough actual facts used to make it plausible.

Now, me. I'd like to be the old priest (non-celebate thank you) that sits in a cave somewhere in Atlantis and through my lucid dreaming abilities, contacts the templars throughout the ages with encouragement and suggestions. er..what kind of underwear do Atlantean priests wear under their robes, cotton, silk, or is it commando? O_o

I'll just go with Seekers storyline, it looks interesting and something I'd like
I'm not going to say I don't have any imagination, but it's just freaky and my story idea would be something like the Matrix in the end. The Person ones story looks nice too. Or maby something with people on a quest to ascend somewhere...
You could put me in your story if you want to. I might add some character info later.
One question though, how long is the story going to be? I mean Thousands of years is a long time if you chose Seekers ide or something similar.

Hehehe, I'm also thinking of writing a story that has to do with Lucid dreaming (like most events take place in dreams and dream-events can change Non-dream ones )

Anyway, I like Seeker's idea. But maybe you can combine it with the government and alien ones. Like strange beings from far away came to Earth, first trough a dream, but they are evil and want to get the treasure of the ancient cities and civilizations (Atlantis, Mu, Lemuria, you may throw the Mayans there too ). And they want those treasures because The Earth was used long long ago by the most powerful beings (the good ones, the creator(s) ) as one of the hiding places for those treasures , the treasures are very powerful artifacts, devices that open the secrets in the center of the universe (where everything started) and by doing that they can finish up with everything and create a new universe as they want. But for some reason they contacted a person in the government and with the help of these evil guys he found a way to stop people from dreaming, since dreaming is the way to get the artifacts , but he didn't count with people experienced in LDing,what started as a normal dream turned into a nightmare and most people (non-LDers) where taken out of dreamland, and LDers thought it was a nightmare but by LDing (excuse my excess of LD use) they fought this nightmare (that was harder than usual) and....

Hohohohoho , looks like I started another story XD , but well that's my idea

okay, so so far here is the basic idea:

the story starts with a prologe, chronicling the origin of lucid dreaming, starting at atlantis and going on to the present day. throughout the book there will be flashbacks to the past.

the rest of the story curently is that a ra of beings who exist only in the dream world (I am not ripping of Lovecraft ) become aware of the presence of lucid dreamers, as there minds are strong becones to them, attracting there attention and able to interact with them.
they are beings left over from the mind of the first lucid dreamer, and they have survived his "death" by feeding of the dreams and emotions of living people.
They contact some people who can lucid dream and convince them to help them take over the world (for reasons I will stat in a second)
They need the Lucid dreamers to get for them items hidden in both the dream world (by Atlantians) and object hidden in the real world (by, you guessed it, Atlantians). They cant get them themselves because there are powerful wards in the dream world, and they cant interect directly with the real world.
THe goal of the aliens (lets call them Psi-fins) is to use the artifact to combine the real and dream world, allowing them to use the reallity aultering powers to refore me universe to there choosing, and no longer having to realy upon draining dreamers, but instead can now survive in real bodies that can completly control reality.
Seeker is one of the last Atlantians, having lived for thousands of years through a type of hidernation and dreaming, regaining his youth in the prossess, but still inevitable becoming older as the years drag by. He can enter the dream world at will (can you say WILD?) and has thousand of years of experiance. He often manifests as a wise old man helping people. He is the youngest son of the first lucid dreamer.
He is well aware of this problim, and contacts a secret cabal of Atlantian desendents and other people who have joined them to help them stop the menece (theis characters will probably be Admin, mods and dream guides. Onieronaut can be the millitery comander if he likes )
They try, but the evil forces are to strong for them, so they enlist the help of other lucid dreamsers from accross the world, not physicly meating them, but contacting them and letting them know of the threat.
To stop them, they must travil in both the dream and real worlds to far off places at the edge of reality and find a hiden item with the power to distroy the Psi-fins, or at least seperate them from the dream worlds inhabbetes

this is the story so far. any ideas as to what else to add or remove

oh, and Seeker, you dont have to be celebit, and its silk

[edit] oh, and I am still not sure if it will be a noval or short story, but it is setting the stage for a new universe wich we can all add to.

the reason the other dreamers are helping is because the Psi-fins told them they would "assent" and be forever part of a lucid dream

Man seeker. It seems like you may have been day dreaming at work? That plot seems far from spontaneous, a little deep and preemptive.

Whew. I think I need to grasp this admin role for a little bit before I become any Wizards and the like.

Why don't you add a little romance to your story? Make a dream-being fall in love with someone from the real world (impossible love, different worlds, bla bla). That would be interesting...

I didn't get the character thing though, does the personality of the character in your story have to be our personality or how we'd like our character to be?

that is a matter that is up to you. I would hope that people would paint an acurate picture of there selves, but I know that it will never be 100% accurate, and they can always paint there ideal selves ('cause that is what they want to read about).

For example, and arrogent person might say they are strong willed, well a rude person will say they are blunt, both of wich being a more ideal version of who they are. But in the end it is how you perseve yourself that effects how you are in the dream world, and that is mostly were this is going to take place

I like that idea. I've a number of dream-ish related stories going, one of which is an idea I'm particularly proud of, but I'm not sure if I want to dislose it yet.

I like the idea of using an ancient society, but does it have to be Atlantis? I'm not trying to nit-pick this apart, but maybe if we change the name it would sound more original... It's up to you.

If you want a hand with this I would be more than happy to help you out! I was also thinking that Howetzer could be Seeker's apprentice. Seeker knows that he's not going to live forever and in the (recent) past decided to name a successor and teach him everything he knows. So, while Howetzer is not as adept as Seeker, he's learning.

You could use me as a character in your book as well. I don't have to be a main character, but I must insist on being a good person - I was a moderator after all. I'll PM you with some more details.

How about something involving Freddy kruger....possibly.

Let's see, I'm dreamy, sensitive, sort of a push over, whiny, clumsy and I reeeeally want to fly (in a lucid dream) - I don't really know what you can make out of these. But good luck!

I have a good idea of what is going to happen in the story now, but I am still open to more ideas and of course, more characters

Ok here is my description:

I'm timid, sensitive , insecure specially around people I don't know or haven't seen in a long time, I talk a lot with people I know, I trust my friends and people I think that can be called "friends" and hate so much when they do not help you (when you already helped them) and also totally hate when they betray me. I daydream so much (it's like my hobby) mostly because I daydream about what I'm not in RL , I like videogames , water sports and martial arts, but I use most of my time for school because I have a hard time with calculus (and I wanna be an engineer x_x) in less words I'm responsible.

I think I'm missing something. Do we have to include a physical description?

This idea really appeals to me I like the idea of the community writing a story as a big team.

Some questions/comments about the story:

1. Where do these dream-beings come from? You said they were left over from the mind of the first lucid dreamer... are they all part of one person, this lucid dreamer? did his mind explode and create them?

2. I like the idea of wards on the dreamworld (placed there, I'm guessing by the Atlantians?)

3. So the aliens want to merge reality with the dream world, making everything like a big lucid dream for them? And what happens to the humans?

4. I love the idea of Seeker as a kind of ancient atlantian wise man... a mix between Gandalf the grey and yoda . Oh and admin, mods and DGs as as the kind of elite atlantian network is cool too.

- I think that part of the beginning should include a new illness breaking out - it randomely strikes anyone. This is the result of the aliens "draining" dreamers. Just to show that they are evil from the start

Have the aliens been in the dream world since the beginning of time? Or are they trying to conquer earth and can only .... exist in the dream world for now? i dunno...

About number 3, I think that after the dreamworld and real world are combined all humans are just going to sleep normaly and since most do not know about lucid dreams they will think that its just real life or a dream, while LDers are the ones that will get "powers" and all that stuff.

About the illiness part,I think is cool, maybe that is starts like some kind of nightmare, well it all depends on what happens to normal people. But I like that idea.

my ideas!:

After coming across DreamViews, you discover the ability to enter a dream world. Instead of going into your own head at night, or two people sharing a dream, there's an actual dream world that the DV people go to when they try. Something that's taught on DV.

Like a reverse Matrix movie.

and i duno what should happen, maybe someones a dick and you want to throw stuff at him. im tired

1) they were created as compainions by the First Lucid dreamer, with each one represented a part of him. In the end, when he died, the evil inside of some of them caused them to kill or drive off the good ones. they replicated, and the evil ones replicents became the Psi-fins

2) you guessed it

3) the Psi-fins tell the corrupt, "puppet" lucid dreamers that they will become perminent residents of the dream world, with everyone else cought in a dream they can neither control nor wish to stop. in essence, the Corrupt ones will be the rulers of humanity and princes of the universe.
in reality, however, the Lucid dreamers and all humans will be distroyed, as when the worlds combine, the Psi-fins will be the only surviving beings in either universe

the Aliens existed once the first lucid dreamer wanted compainions, but didn't know about shared dreaming yet. in essence, the Psi-fins are the dark side of humanity
