Lets play Dwarf Fortress!

Ok, so I found this fun little game, its called Dwarf Fortress. You may or may not have heard of it.

The basic concept is that you have a few Dwarves who set off to build a fortress, and survive within that fortress, but really, you can do whatever you want; Its a sandbox game. It has a ton of depth, and is really fun as well. Here is the catch:

Those happen to be the graphics. If you can get past that, you have found a great game to enjoy. I know of a few graphics packs floating around out there, but I haven't bothered to look, so you will have to look into that yourself if you are interested.

This game is honestly huge. It has been a work in progress for many years, since at least 2000. Here is the wiki for the game:

This game has an insane amount of depth, and as such, it can be quite a bit daunting at first. I, myself, saw the main screen and closed the game, not to play it for a few weeks. So here are a few tutorials I have found:

I want to get a few people together so we can do a Bloodline game. A Bloodline game is where a few people (4 or so) get together and play one fort, each taking turns of a few game years or so. A funny Bloodline, and probably the most popular DF story ever written, is the epic saga of Boatmurdered.

Did this result from me blatantly advertising dwarf fortress in the chat? Either way I'll join the bloodline game, it was only a matter of time before I started one myself anyway.

If you find the time to watch it, this tutorial covers pretty much everything in the game, and manages not to get boring.

Holy shit, read this. It's hilarious, epic, and even emotional at some points. At the end I wanted to stand up and clap. THIS WILL INSPIRE YOU FOR A BLOODLINE GAME.

I was flipping through the Legends in the game tonight, and I have realized how god damn detailed this game is. It absolutely astounds me.
