So what do you all think about the world of MMA, which is now getting much more recognition (mainly, in the States) than it used to?
Do you watch it? Do you hate it? Who are some of your favorite fighters? (and in the case of the IFL; favorite teams)
Do any of you practice MMA?
Do you know of any franchises other than the ones listed above?
...You know, basically any question/answer/info/banter you have about MMA.
Personally, I think it's one of the greatest sports out there. I've been watching UFC for a few years now, back since the Gracie dynasty was (collectively) master of the universe and there were barely any rules. I'm really excited about additions like the IFL (team battles) and Bodog, which I've just recently heard about.

Just came across another franchise, on TV, that I'd never seen before. And who was sitting in the audience? The owner of the league and executive producer, who is none other than...wait for it......Chuck Norris. Haha.
World Combat League
They also seem to have female fighters on there, regularly - probably more-so than any other franchise I've seen so far.

I used to watch UFC quite a bit, most of it though is starting to piss me off, like all they do now is make it all drama filled, I dont wanna see a play, I wanna see a fight where two guys go in, and one gets the crap kicked out of him. I wanna see a fight, not a production... God
As for martial arts, I get my blackbelt in tae kwon do in about 8 months if I train my ass off!

I love watching UFC and cage fights and I'm sure that if I could I'd follow the sport religeously. But you only see it on sports channels and I'm stuck with 5 channels on my tv, I don't even have freeview. Is there anywhere (not Youtube - I meant good quality) where I can see full fights on the internet for free?

I was just watching a knockout reel, on Spike, and was reminded of this - definitely one of my most favorite UFC knockouts.
Just amazing. Heh.
It takes the top-down view to really see how fast that kick was traveling, when it hit. Ouch.
And I can't believe I neglected this thread so much that I never saw this. =/
I really don't know what my favorite martial art is. I see good and bad in so many of them. As an all-around, effective fighting style, though, I'd probably have to say muay thai, but that's only when being forced to choose one over the rest. I love them all for different reasons.

I've been watching UFC for years I use to rent the old videos with hoyce gracie. And i agree with someone here that said it is turning into a drama. I wanna see good action not a WWF ripoff.

Ive been watching UFC ever since the first Ultimate Fighter aired and I really love it, I just wish there were more practitioners of arts other than muay tai or Judo in the UFC. Ive become a fan of Mashida who just beat tito because at least his stand up style is different, and actually more to the way I was taught to fight.
I got my black belt after 4 years of training in a mix of TKD, Muay tai and boxing that my instructor for practical purposes just called TKD, and this past semester at college Ive been practicing capoeira (lots of fun) I also have self taugh some Judo with some friends using this site call submissions 101. I would really love to get in to some actual MMA competition, but there are no gyms around here, I suppose Im in too small of a town.
I have recognized the increase in "drama" but come on, thats entertainment, they do it in all sports franchises, the best thing to do is ignore the drama and observe the action.

just watched the preview for UFC 85, and I cant wait to see Hughes versus Thiago. I didnt really have a preferance before the fight for who won because I liked both of them as fighters...however now that I see how Thiago is out of the ring, I have to say I hope Hughes grounds and pounds him out. but, sadly, I dont know if that will happen because Hughes has looked rather lack luster in his last few fights...I hope he brings back how he use to be.

Mm...
I appreciate that these MMA fights are skillful, though from what I've seen it's not that amazing.
True masters in their own field would annihilate most of these guys.
Usually this is just bad soft-core porn to watch, for me.
You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.
poor Hughes. He is a shadow of his former fighting self...I think its best to retire...not everyone can be like Couture. I will always be a big fan of Hughes though, not so much for his style, but his heart and his personality, the sport could use more personalities like him.

so, apparently I was the last person to post in this thread, but there is no reason to make a new thread just to say....KIMBO GOT OWNED by someone who didnt even win TUF no less!

haha damn right. Too bad it wasn't shamrock though. Would have loved to see that fight happen. Kimbo has been tested now, and failed very quickly.
it is getting popularized due to TUF and all the post fight shit they do to dramatize it, not going to disagree there. But it is an amazing sport. I mean, check this out and tell me your mouth didnt drop.

Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez vs. Joe "Daddy" Stevenson
UFC 95 - Tonight on SPIKE TV
Two great guys. Two great fighters. I'd pull for either one of them, but my money is on Diego. It should be good, though. I know Stevenson has the stamina and can really take a beating, but I think Sanchez is a little better on offense - so it may just balance itself out.

Great first round.
They're both looking good so far, but it's going pretty much like I pictured: Diego is getting the good strikes in, but Joe just keeps on coming (highlighted by the fact that he keeps on smiling. Heh) I'm glad they are keeping it as a stand up fight, so far.
[Edit: Good fight. Diego's still proving to be the more versatile fighter, though. As long as Joe doesn't get a crucial hit in, this is going to be all Diego's fight.]

Awesome. Good fight. I just love the types of fighters who you can tell have so much respect for each other. I get tired of seeing all the cocky bastards like Tito Ortiz who go into every fight talking like they are the best that ever stepped into the octagon. It's always good to see two clear-headed warriors going at it.

man that event was boss. I loved every fight, including kos getting caught lulz!
I agree completely, people like ortiz need to just phase out of this sport, its time for the real proffessionals to take over.

Definitely. I look at guys like Phil Baroni and I think they are just a stain on what should be such a respectable sport. I mean seriously. I guess it's understandable, though. It's such a testosterone-heavy sport, but still, I just have so much more respect for the guys that just do the damn thing. They get into the fight, beat each other's asses, and can go out for a beer afterward.
I dont' know if you saw the Spencer Fischer vs. Sam Stout match, some time ago, but it was probably the best stand-up fight I've ever seen. That beat the snot out of each other and, at the end, were showing off by having a push up contest, bloodied and bruised and smiling at each other like they were having the time of their lives. Those are real martial artists.

no doubt. those guys are really classy. They are the kind of guys who make me want to try it, and watch it.
a little off tangent...when is Lyoto Machida going to get his glory? This dude is one of the most technical guys in the game and is still unbeaten...but he isnt TOO vocal about getting a title shot, he really deserves it.
