Thread: Playstation 3 - Worth the Buy?

Elite? Why? You already have a X360. What's the point of changing. The Elite changes none of the major faults (noise, heat, etc.) I'm planning on getting a PS3 as well, Lucid Seeker. They look promising.

PS3 sounds good because I am a Final Fantasy and square enix fan. i love the rpgs, but it seems to expensive. I am dbating whether i should get a xbox 360 or a PS3. You love final fantasy also right Lucid seeker?

i totally agree, wait until there is better games and price is lowered. I got all of my game systems i own used. Xbox - free last year, PS2 - B day 80$ GC right when it came out 80$.

I do like the Final Fantasy series, most the Final Fantasy titles will be released on PS3 but the main title FFXIII will apparantly be released on xbox360, i'm sticking with the PS3 on this one. Looks to have good features.

Im not buying the elite. Im just saying it's a WAY better buy than the premium package. And yes all the bugs were worked out! (exept cooling :0). In other wards no blinking red lights! Red lights suck!

Your best bet would be to wait - That way, there's a better chance at a price drop, and there's no point in buying it now anyway since there's no good games at all. Speak to any PS3 fanboy and they'll say something along the lines of "The PS3 doesn't suck! Look at all the good games due to ship in September!". Best to just wait until September to see if it really is worth it.

Don't make the same mistake I made with the PSP - I bought it immediately on impulse and put trust in Sony to release some good games for it. Fast forward three years later, and Sony has pretty much put their beloved PSP behind them in embarassment. The only good games that have been released are Grand Theft Auto, Lumines, and arguably Wipeout Pure - after three years, that's really sad. $250 for the system and $500 for games/memory stick I wish I had back. Lé sigh.

i have an XBox 360 because i am following the halo series. But consider you are getting a Blu-Ray DVD player for a very cheap price. Of course if Blu-Ray loses in the HD DVD format war then your in trouble. I don't understand the difference between them, but PS3 is Blu-Ray, 360 plays HD DVDs ibelieve.

I'm not getting any new consoles until at least one more year passes. I have whackloads of other PS2 games to get through (e.g. FFXII, all three Xenosaga, etc.)

That being said, the PS3 is SLICK!! It's still worth it just for the cheap BluRay player, if you're up for it. Of course, now that porn == HDDVD, I dunno what's left lol.

Yeah, i'd wait a while untill the good games come out.

At this very moment though, i'd say its not worth it.

Exept for if blu-ray was guarenteed to win, then its definatly worth it.

I would wait for the price to drop. $600 is way to much.

I'm getting a little worried that MGS wont be released only for PS3. I think Konami sees that they wouldn't make a profit making it an exclusive. I dont think many people own a PS3, so why would that mean they would sell alot. Oh well.

I agree with you as far as your advice, but it does have a few good games out for it. For instance Resistance: fall of Man, Motorstorm, Virtua Fighter 5, Oblivion, and calling all Cars. They may not be Super-fantastic games, or in oblivions case - exclusive games, but they are good games. But thats not a very broad selection of games so I think the best thing would be to wait until August/September depending on how good and long Lair is.

Save your money and buy a house instead.

The online play is substandard, and there isn't any good original titles out. You could play Resistance Fall of Man... or...

You could buy a Premium Xbox 360. 420 dollars with tax, and there is PLENTY of games out, considering they've had a 1 year start. Most of the games will be developed on the Xbox 360, since the Wii is hard to make games for due to the controls, and the PS3 is hard to make games for, due to the pricing of Blue-ray. Many PS3 games are already ending up on the Xbox 360, including METAL GEAR SOLID 4, and DEVIL MAY CRY 4, just to name a few. You have to pay for online, but oh well, its like buying a new game every year. and extra 50 bucks wont kill you. Plenty of new games to look forward too, such as Bioshock, Saints Row 2, GTA 4 (yes i realize its coming out for PS3 too, but 360 has exclusive content), Halo 3, Mass Effect, Too Human, etc etc.

Online is perfectly functional - there is nothing seriously wrong with it. It may not be as well beefed up as Xbox live, but it is improving with firmware updates. Not to mention it's free. I already talked about games in my previous post since you are saying basically the same thing, refer to that.

If anything, ps3 is tricky to design for because of the Cell proccessor.

MGS4 has never been announced for the 360. The only official statement on the matter vaguely hints towards it being ps3 exclusive. Also just because some 3rd party ps3 games are "ending up on the 360" doesn't mean they aren't on the ps3.

Plenty of new games to look forward too, such as Bioshock, Saints Row 2, GTA 4 (yes i realize its coming out for PS3 too, but 360 has exclusive content), Halo 3, Mass Effect, Too Human, etc etc.

Same could be said about the PS3. Look at NInja Gaiden Sigma, LAir, Drakes Fortune, Little big planet, Warhawk, Ratchet and Clank, etc.

Lets see.. how long does a console last for?

5 years live 5*50$ = 250 (or, if you're canadian like me its 60$ but lets skim over that)

400 + 250 = 650$

I'd say microsoft has the better strategy of milking gamer's money =/ Slowly but surely.

Blue-ray format costs more to manufacture. That means smaller game developers would shy away from the PS3

Plus, it holds what? 5x more or something around there. Able to fit 5x the stuff into a single disk is surely a plus.

Does anybody have or want a Wii? It seems like this topic is all about XBox and PS3.

Its because you can't really compare the Wii to either. When if comes to that, its all a matter of taste.

The Wii looks much more promising then any of the other 3 but I don't think i'm gonna end up getting any. I'm gonna stick with computer gaming =P. Computer gaming > all.
