      "Stairway to Heaven" played backwards

Have you ever heard the Led Zeppelin song "Stairway to Heaven" played backwards? I could tell a very long story of my history with the crazy idea that it involves Satanic messages, but I will cut to the chase. Here is one interpretation, of many.

      http://youtube.com/watch?v=lgTAekO8Zek

Now, try listening to the first part of the backward version while listening to some B.S. I made up. I think it works just as well. It suggests the idea that the song backwards is about the Pearl Harbor attack.

"Pay back with Hawaii. It's sunny here at sea. Should know."

Did anybody hear those words? I think they are just as legitimate as the Satanic words because neither message is real.

The Pearl Harbor attack occurred at the U.S. Naval base in the Hawaiian islands on a sunny day, and there is an urban legend that President Roosevelt knew it was going to happen and didn't tell the officers at the base. My point is that the noise is abstract and the brain is made to make concrete interpretations of the abstract, as happens with a fluffy cloud, a Rorschach ink blot test, and a tree through which the sky can be seen. What do you think?

I think the brain making sense of the abstract is right on. If you combine that with the suggested lyrics that flash by on the screen, you can further convince your brain of what is being said. And it doesn't even have to be super abstract, either. The song could go forwards, and one can abuse all ambiguities to produce really funny results. for example...

You know, first time I heard that (a LONG time ago) I wouldn't listen to Stairway to Heaven at all. Then I was told about that cloud thing and it made perfect sense. Then I recorded myself playing the song and did it backwards, and it matched the 'satanic' lyrics perfectly. So, unless they planned each verse out to do that, then it's completely fake.

Look out on a summers day,
with eyes that know the darkness of my soul.

By the way, any Bill Hicks fans here? He had a really funny piece of material making fun of all the idiots who thought Judas Priest was a satanic sect .

That was cool to hear Zeppelin played backwards. But yeah, you could pretty much make anything out of those words - it's all about perception.

It's been twenty years since I tried this and I don't remember the position on the song. However, there was definately a point when played backwards you can hear "'cause I live with satan"
