      The sweetest friggin side-scrolling shooter?

      After much looking around, I've concluded that Jets'n'Guns is the sweetest side-scroller in existence. This game is so freaking badass. Loads of weapons and upgrades for ship, huge explosions, almost everything destructible, amazing metal-electro soundtrack, bombings, tanks, little guys with jetpacks.



      Any contestants?

      Wielding twin Vulcan cannons, in this game, is a thing of beauty. Haha.


      I've never played Jets 'n Guns, though. Looks awesome.

      Any game Kenta Cho makes. (I suggest Gunroar, but they're all interesting). Also, Warning Forever.

      Can't think of any more off the top off my head. Free games beyond roguelikes or simple card games etc. tend to suck badly, with few exceptions. Cho's shmups avoid this typical lameness by abstracting the graphics, as does Warning Forever.

      WF is pretty great for short sessions.

      Raptor: Call of the shadows is the best scrolling-fighter game ever. I like the top-down kind more anyways.
