Splinter Cell, by Tom Clancy. Incredible book especially if you are a fan of the video game series.

Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, is an excellent book.
Um, for lighter reading, I got the whole James Bond collection for Christmas, which is fun and engaging.

I've stopped reading so much since last year as I have more to do schoolwise now, but oh well...

Yeahh

Cat's Cradle is my favorite. Though if you do get into Vonnegut(and you will) it's best to read them in order, even though they aren't a series. They often have in jokes and small occurrences alluding to his other books. It's a great moment when you realize the appearance of a character briefly mentioned, or a sort of paradox that is only realized if you read his other books that were key characters and events in other of his work.

Slaughterhouse Five is probably the best, though Cat's Cradle is my overall favorite.

And if you're going for some entertaining, humorous reading, read anything by Terry Pratchett. Start off with The Colour of Magic, though, as they often have the same little kinds of occurrences and such that are so prevalent in Vonnegut's work.

Those are my two favorite authors, you'll find dozens of very entertaining books in between them.

I love the Tide Lord series by Jennifer Fallon.
Its fantasy about a group of Immortals.

She's an Australia author and the first three books are out here. I believe in the US only the first book has been release so far. I'm not sure about other parts of the world.

Probably not what you were thinking of, but I read this cool book called "What If?", which is a collection of alternative histories had major historic events gone differently (If the Greeks had been conquered by the Persians, if the Mongols had ravaged Western Europe, If the Allies had lost WW2, etc.)

Really interesting, and definately fiction.

that book does sound very interesting Spar. I might get that book too!

on topic...I like fantasy, so of course Im going to recommend reading some of Tolkien's books outside of LOTR. If you havnt read LOTR, you should, just skip some of the longer parts that put a lot of detail in and you will find a very good read.

I really liked Hearts in Atlantis and 1984 but "The Little Prince" by Saint Exupery remains my favourite.

Check it.

Some of my personal favorites are Brimstone by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, The Lost World by Michael Crichton and The Vampire Chronicles series by Anne Rice.

That sounds awesome. I might have to look into it.

The "Necroscope" series is a pretty interesting one.

Birdsong, I'm currently studying it for school however it has really grown on me. It's a little slow for the first few pages but then really gets good 100 pages in.

It's about a man that's in France researching a company and has an affair, then it jumps forward to the first world war. Really good!

Also I like the catcher in the Rye, for some reason I can relate to Holden.

House of Leaves- Mark Z. Danielewski

This book is amazing. It's all a story yet it's more than a story, more than one story. It's reality and fiction in one. You'll find yourself looking up names of people that are supposedly real, but you'll find out they're not. Yet there are footnotes upon footnotes citing people. Some pages even have only a few words on the entire page. The words shift just as the entire world shifts. It is an amazingly epic read and very experimental and influential. I can scan a page or two if you want an example of the badassness. There are acrostics here and there, some pages that are missing, and still everything strange that happens in the physical book itself corresponds to the House itself.

I can't recommend this book enough...wow.

Have read, and I'm not someone who usually enjoys alternative histories. It wasn't exceptional, but definetly a good read.
