Thread: Abortion: Pro Life Or Pro Choice?

I have found that those that are against abortion will not change their view.
There is no argument that hasn't been posed to them. It is a choice and I am not saying they are right or wrong. But they will not be open minded.
It is either a life or it is not.

I agree, i am totally pro-choice. For those reasons above and because to me, when yuo have say a 6 week old feutus inside you, it is hardly a human being, i mean it is becoming one buit it cannot survive in the world, everything is hardly developed and so technically i dont think you are murdering ity by ending its life, because really it hasnt had one yet.

I can understand why most religious people think its murder, but if you think that then you must also think that contraception is also murder, because your preventing the life from starting, especially if your using the morning after pill, because technically yuou have just ended the start of what could be a life.

But i would rather end the life of a feutus if it was mentally disabled or had other problems then let it suffer in life. It isnt hard to make a child, you can make another. The world is over populated really and i think the choice to not have a child should be aloud. When religious people say the child should get a life, even if it results in the death of its mother or it having a serious problem, then what kind of a life have you given it?

Even though people are tryung to be nice, i think they are being selfish, lets pretend your born with a horrible disfigurement, like your arm being on your back, or something similiar. You also have a brain disorder and so you are hardly in control of your limbs and your constantly wetting yourself. Thats no life, if at 6 weeks in the womb we know its going to be like that, then its better to stop it having that life and have another healthy child.

But thats my opinion.

I don't think it's that simple... it depends on the situation at hand.

Again. A life is a life and we are not the ones to choose who lives and who dies.

I myself am pro choice. certainly not used so recklessly as birth control but more so for some of the aforementioned reasons.

You give the people a choice ...they screw it up. That is the case with our entire democracy. Sad but true.

It's been my observation after seeing many abortions threads on here, that most pro-life advocates are males. It's easy for a guy to be all hardcore pro-life because it's not their body in question. I just think it's ironic.

Really. I always took woman to be more partisan and take issue with abortion. Similar to the same reasoning they seem very defensive about taking a life.
But you have a point, it is their body.

I don't know. I kind of agree w/ Burns. There are a lot of men who are Pro Life. They never have to go through the pain of labor and have no idea what women experience when they have a baby, so a lot of them just automatically say that women should be forced to have the baby. Those people really should have to endure labor, that'd show them

I sad pro choice, but only because there is no middle ground. Abortion should not be used like birth control... instead of just aborting babies, people should learn better habits like using condoms and birth control pills better. But abortion seems like not a bad thing when it involves the mother's health or the mother didn't choose to have sex with the father (such as rape). But if some stupid girl has sex with some guy and is like "shit i don't want a baby" well, abortion isn't really appropriate then.

I agree, Burns. I think it should be a choice that people should have. I do not advocte abortion as a form of birth control at all, but I do think that every couple who creates a fetus should have the chance to choose things. There are extenuating circumstances that make things like this necessary. I am pro-choice, but I do not take abortion lightly. I think both people who make a child should have say, and talk about it like resonable adults, and nobody should be able to take that right from them.

I couldn't agree w/ Gwendolyn more. Though I am pro choice, you should always think about the pros and cons of aborting your baby instead of just saying, "Oh, I don't want it, so I'll kill it." People who have thought processes like that really shouldn't be able to bear children at all. You can't just make a life altering decision like that w/out putting some thought into it. Hopefully, I haven't offended anyone by posting that.

because an innocent baby shouldnt have to die because she couldnt keep her legs closed. really, its not the end of the world if a teenager gives birth to a child. my cousin did, and all though she went through a depression cycle thinking it was the end of the world - her child ended up being a little angel *really she just walks around saying how much she loves everyone, it weirds out her own mother* she loves being a mom now, and is having her third child.

I am neither pro-choice or pro-life - there are political problems to both. My stance on the situation is not political, so I can not vote on it. And since most of us will never be put in a situation where we must choose between our death or the death of our child, we can't judge and its best to allow a choice in these scenarios.

but, I think the real problems in abortion is that it shows a gross mentality of modern human beings. Its society that needs to change before the issue of abortion is finally over. The first problem is among females who have a gross view of the female body. They are actually upset that men dont 'suffer' pregnancy, and pregnancy has become this 'shame'. This 'curse' of being female. So when a teeanger gets pregnant she feels 'shame', 'cursed'.

There is no respect for the female body, or that it carries the next generation - only this gross mentality that somehow being born male or female is against our free will so we must result to manmade processes to correct this.

I may be christian but damn, do we need to bring back the Goddess devotion in society or what? There is nothing shameful about the female body and no female should feel ashamed if she becomes pregnant. Period. Her body is sacred and so is her most natural role.

The other problem I see is our view of sex. We have somehow lied to ourselves saying we can have all the sex we want and never worry about pregnancy. Unless youre gay, youre an idiot for believing so. Sex = babies. Its how all of us are born. If you dont want children, the safest way to avoid pregnancy all together is not have sex - which every teenager should do if they feel their whole world would fall apart if it happened. For adults we have condoms and other things - but abortion is not one of them, it does not prevent pregnancy. Birth controls prevent the process of pregnancy from happening. The CHOICE to having a child or not is not really made with abortion - that choice has already been decided with all of the actions leading up to the pregnancy.

Our view of sex, that it is seperate from pregnancy, and how females view their own body shows a problem that is very deep in our society. A problem that humans want to take control of nature, and decide the nature of things, and what nature does and doesnt do. This problem isn't about choice, just our own problem with embracing what is natural.

We also need to continue having support for teen pregnancy. All children are equal, regardless of their parents, and should have the same chances at life that we all have. We also have a problem with orphanages. And how difficult it is to adopt.

The other problem I see, is well, lack of compassion and this false notion of what happiness is. Where do pro-choicers start arguing that if a child is less than perfect its probably better if it was never born??? Again, I can't stress enough I am not talking about the choice to have this child or not, but simply the mentality that it is better that it is never born. Where do you come off with this mentality? I hear this a lot from people who have had suicidal thoughts. Youre still here arent you? You haven't committed suicide yet have you? Second, I dont remember hearing any reports about mass suicides from orphans or less than perfect people. Suicides always seem to come from middle class americans, theyre not even coming from the pooor!

There are plenty less than perfect people happy to be alive, and there are plenty who are miserable. The same can be said for people born with perfect health. If you can count to four then hopefully you can see our genes don't decide the outcome of our life.

I hope you understand, I am not arguing for or against either pro-life or pro-choice - just the mentalities behind it. Why? Becuase even if pro-lifers win the legal battle, since these gross mentalities still exist abortion would continue in illegal practices - taking even more lives and damaging society even more. And if pro-choicers win the legal battle - im sorry sweet heart - but that will just open pandora's box for more worthless men to run out on us ladies unless we abort, holding it against us even if we want the child. Cowards. I hope they ass-raped down the line.

I can quite honestly say, that if my mom was a crack-addict / was 13 when she got pregnant / got raped she would have been more then welcome to abort me. Watch me care. I couldn't, I couldn't in any way, shape or form with less brain then a fly.

The real issue, I think, is what you call (valuable) life. I don't call a bunch of cells valuable life. Some people do. However do they do like to eat porn, squash bugs and practice other forms of cellular genocide.

lol. Seriously, really interesting, you probably didn't tell something I disagree with. But what did you add to this topic? At least explain how that what your write relates to the topic at hand. Or at least say 'Pro-abortion' or 'Against-Abortion'.

If everything in the world was Black and was White then i could EASILY say
"I'm Pro-Life!" or "I'm Pro-Choice!". But this is not the case.
Life needs both existrence and death to continue and also needs the Choice , key word here lol, of the beings that exist in the world to ensure the continued existence of this species. (a species that has got so out of control and over-running the world that this type of arguement becomes necessary as people do what they can through Choice to keep the population at a sustainable level)
The abortion arguement is always looked at so cut-and-dry and I realize that (to add to this topic) that the arguement would evolve instead of stalemating if people looked through it and saw life as it is:
the intermingling effects of existence and death.
If pro-choice believers want to label this response as pro-choice then that is THEIR choice. The same goes for a Pro-lifer wanting to label my response as on of someone who is pro-choice, it is again, still their choice to do so.
This arguement that has existed looong before most of us were conceived will not end because it comes down to BELIEFS. You cannot change someones beliefs, you can only persuade them to believe what you do to get an agreeance and then progress down one solution that has become truth because Might then Equals Right.

Also, 'Just figure it out yourself' equals pro-choice. Pro-Choice implies... choice. While pro-life takes away any choice. However, there maybe should have been a 'Only in special (rape, ect) cases'-poll option.

Obviously some people don't care, and we should respect their opinions as long as they respect ours. Everyone has a right to their own opinions even if we don't agree w/ them.

You say you don't mind people aborting their babies because cells aren't "valuable life." But what about later abortions when the babies are more developed? Where is the line for you?
