we atheists will always be on defense. I think many take comfort in knowing that the person they are talking to also believes in such an unprovable thing. I believe it reinforces the behavior, making it almost impossible to think outside of god.
American polls suggest that atheists and agnostics far out number religious Jews, and even out number most other particular religious groups.
In our system Jews are politically effective lobbyists. More so the Christians who wield even a greater political power.
Atheist and agnostics are not organized and have little influence. Why:
1. Organizing atheists is often compared to herding cats. Tending to think for themselves and independently seeking their own truth.
2.not as likely to conform to a stereo typical society.
~ "When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity." When many people suffer from a delusion it is called Religion."
we atheists will always be on defense. I think many take comfort in knowing that the person they are talking to also believes in such an unprovable thing. I believe it reinforces the behavior, making it almost impossible to think outside of god.
The truth is somewhere in the middle
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!?!?! All I've seen from the atheists on this forum is on the offensive side. I don't understand why you poor little guys have Napoleonic complexes. I mean... is it really that bad being atheists, that you have to rag on others to feel good? I do give you my pity... but, not much else.
HAHAHAHA AGAIN, I won't stereotype them, if they won't stereotype Christians... Neither are going to stop so, shut up!
Take a breath. It's not that funny you just sound like a maniacal asshole.
Because some athiests stereotype Christians, you stereotype Athiests (and say that all athiests stereotype Christians, another stereotype from you). That doesn't seem like a very justifiable reason to me.
Not all Athiests stereotype Christians, and vice versa.
Touche.Neither are going to stop so, shut up![/b]
Shut up?![]()
With all due respect, I see more religion being pushed on me and my peers than I see atheistic views.
So when the topic does come up, as it seems to often do, then both sides are defensive.
Do you consider the evidence of the poll I suggested stereotyping?
I realize polls have to be taken with a certain degree of latitude, but generalizing is often what you must do to try to conclude certain events.
You can't hardly take a poll of 7,894 and ⅜ different Christian believers and try to come to any conclusion.
I merely am identifying their political advantage through numbers.
I too have noticed most religion does see things from only one side.![]()
Honestly, nobody has ever tried to preach atheism to me, especially here in KY. We have a lot of religious fanatics who constanly try to convince people to go to this church or that. If you don't go to a church, well it's, "Lord help you poor soul. Better get to church before the lord takes you straight to hell". That is an exaggeration, but I do get preached at quite a bit because I am agnostic. I prefer not to bring religious views into things because of this. I never try to make people understand my views, or agree with them. I state them, and move on. I'm not trying to characterize all christian people to be like this, but I live right in the midst of the Bible belt, and this practice is quite common.
Shine on, you crazy diamond!

The only time I've ever had any sort of religion FORCED on my was at church, like CCD (weekly religious classes which, mind you, I was forced to do my my parents). My mom is also a great believer in the retarded branch (please take no offense to that, if you're Catholic. Just my opinion) of Christianity. I WAS a Catholic, the n decided that the church is just too hypocritical and basically retarded. I mean honestly, who denies a PROVED theory that a well known astronomer made, then suddenly accepts it 400 or so years later?
I'll call myself a Christian, because I believe in God and Jesus, but that's as far as I'll go.
P.S - Atheism has been preached on me, with the somewhat popular response of "I'm an atheist, so don't try forcing your religion down my throat."

Thats not really being preached on you. Thats a valid statement. It would be being preached on you if Atheists tryed shoving it down your throat. The Basic "I'm Right, Your Wrong" statement is what I'm getting at. Its like when preachers come to the door and say "Want to join our religion? If you don't, you'll burn in hell." If an Atheist said "Hey, God doesn't exist you ignorant retard. Stop living a facade and realize how stupid you are." Then it'd be preaching.
But asking not to have religion shoved down your throat is perfectly valid... I wouldn't and don't appreciate when someone says I'm going to burn in hell because I don't believe in God. My beliefs are my beliefs. Frankly, I don't believe in Hell either, so what does it matter? (I didn't even believe in it when I was a Christian).
Its different when the two sides debate. Here we can say our beliefs and why we do or don't believe in something, and people can argue back.

I've seen atheists try and force things just as much as theits.
agreed. does this mean all the senseless bickering will stop?

Probably not.![]()

I find it great that I am an Atheist. Sometimes I just think 'Damn, I am so glad I am not burdened by religion and that I can see the beauty of the world deluded. I think rainbows are even More beautifully the way they are then if god would have created them.
And seriously, don't you think you are the anngry-cyincal here? Way more then the average atheist. Also, the atheist that actively 'fight' Christianity are doing the same as Greenpeace people, or people that actively try to ban something like racism, and the same as Christians that are 'spreading the word of the lord'. They all just do what they think is best and the truth.

Arn't you quite involved in it? Even better, I never saw you having an actual discussion, you just barge in, tell people they are wrong and/or flame them, then you leave. At least I have the decency to argumentate Why I think people are wrong, and Why I flame them![]()

Dang right, this is fun... MWHAHAHAHAHAjk. Well, when someone says something to blatantly offend Christianity as a whole, I have the right to comment.
Umm... I am pretty sure I have the right to stand up for my religion WHEREVER I am.I never saw you having an actual discussion, you just barge in, tell people they are wrong and/or flame them, then you leave.[/b]
Also, How do you get that I wasn't making actual conversation? I talked just like everyone did. Go ahead though, tell me of a BETTER way to make conversation than what I am doing.
Your mistake is you are mixing "unfalsifiable claims" with "unprovable." Anything is "provable." I mean, if you are being inredibly anal about it, you could say nothing is "provable." Gravity might not be true, it just might be incredibly lucky that everything goes down at the exact same rate every time, but one time it goes up. However, in this case I am relying on provable beyond a reasonable doubt or provable to the point at which we can percieve. At any rate, moving on.
Religion is unfalsifiable, which means it cannot be disproved. In a situation like this, a negative cannot be disproved (negatives can indeed be disproved, though). However, if a religious claim is that jesus walked on water and turned water into wine, if we went back in time, we could indeed prove that this occurred. As well, we could prove that god created the universe, if we "went back in time." If God came down and talked to us, then we could prove the existence of god. Note that even if we do not have the technology to go back in time, that does not make it "unprovable." Our ability to actually prove it does not change if it is provable or not.
Anything is "provable." You are mixing things up - somethings are unfalsifiable, but nothing is unprovable.

I'm an atheist, but I really don't care what other people believe. If it makes them feel comfortable, then let them do what they want. I feel comfortable with atheism, so there. I still believe in spirits and souls though. An atheist is just a person who doesn't have a god and that's how I am. I don't believe in some devine being in the sky, controlling all and everything.

Ah, when atheists defend their viewpoint, we are bitching, but you have the fullest right. We don't have the right, after all what was it again, atheist were the most loved and trusted people in America? Oh no, it were the most distrusted people. Yeah, they shouldn't complain about religion.
Well I never saw you making a post that is longer then 20 sentences. http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/index.php?...mp;highlite=%2B
Also, saying things like the stuff below really doesn't make you look like Christians are less aggressive and disrespectful in debating then Atheists.
That isn't really kind, is it now? That is THE dumbest thing I've heard anyone say...

Ah yeah, gotta love atheists.Oh really? All I saw on that thread was a bunch of loons taking scripture out of context.[/b]
Imagen you would use sarcasm! That would make you offensive and annoying!Oh, tell us... I implore you, Oh mighty atheist, that knows more about the bible than we do... Tell us what we haven't read! My pages must have stuck together! Inform me, so that I may be informed![/b]
Seriously, you are like a a saint. You never said anything bad about atheists. Also, I am extremely scared of God, because all atheist actually believe in god, and are afraid of him. Really. How could we be afraid otherwise?... AND WOULD EVERYONE PLZ STOP ATTACKING MY RELIGION?!?!?! I mean, I haven't attacked atheism, so why do you guys feel so THREATENED by the thought of any power higher than your own?[/b]

Seriously Metcalfracing, you might be one of the most angry, unhappy Christian I ever seen. Lighten up.

I myself, am an Atheist. Not really proud of it, I don't go around promoting my Atheistic ways, nor criticize anyone else's religion, well, except Scientology, that's just rediculous. No offence to all you scientologist's out there, but come on, think about what you're talking about. I just don't really hate all religion. What good has ever come out of religion? A smug sense of self security thinking that there's a higher power out there? Well I dunno about you, but all that I've ever seen come from religion is war, and fighting.
Everyone argues over the stupid subject of religion. No religion is proveable, I wish everyone could just stop fighting about it and open their mind to other ideas.
I dunno, that's just my 2 cents. Which obviously isn't really going to have any effect on anyones life, but I just felt like posting this.
