why do most people think it is in the far future, anyhow?
When will we fall? I don't care when it is, or when people think it will happen. But it will. Every single piece of history ever says it will.
Who wants to save the ideals that are embedded in the US constitution? Because they are certainly the best ideals ever.
EDIT: I am far from being sarcastic about the US constitution. One of the greatest documents ever writtten in humanity.

The constitution is surprisingly good, it isn't perfect, and even if it was, it can't be perfect for 200 years, times change. However, America as it is now has little to do with the constitution.

The collapse won't be immediate fall. It won't be like one day you'll wake up in a third world country.
Besides, whatever it left shouldn't be too bad. I could see the US splitting up into different regions, but I don't really see the quality of life dropping to much.

The whole thing would have already been taken over and called either Alabama or Mississippi. Oh, wait... They got their asses kicked the last time there was a split up. Damn.
Well, if that damn coward Lee hadn't surrendered, there wouldn't be an American flag on the moon right now. There would be a Confederate flag! Yeeeeeeehaaaaawwwwwwwwww!!! (Seriously though, I'm glad the North won the war.)

heh, we wouldn't have made it to the moon if the south won.
the rabbit hole is pretty deep mang
...or would we have made it there faster?

"This is a bit unrelated, but has anyone ever thought about what would it be like if America was 50 countries instead of 50 states? That would be an interesting idea for a novel or movie, kinda alternate-universe type thing."
