Wow, and I thought the standard 2012 nut-case theories were bad!

I think his idea is that the Mayan's predicted in 2012 mankind will become brotherly and not violent toward each other, instead of the world ending.
And that could mean every one will lucid dream.
But then how we can already lucid dream?
What if we will lose that ability then?
I personally don't believe in the Mayan's prediction.
Also, is this thread in the right section of the forum?

Yeah, I agree. Not specifically with the lucid dreams, but that it ISN'T the end of the world. It *might* be end of the world AS WE KNOW IT. This means that something drastically new will happen.

Another user posted in a different thread that whatever caused dreams was sensitive to solar radiation. What if the sun puts out more, and causes us to have more lucid dreams? (I don't think I want my parents finding out what I might do in a LD, though )

Nope, I got it, but it just seems so incredibly ridiculous that I'm not sure if he's being serious or not. Truth be told, this is on the top ten list of the silliest things I've ever heard. I see absolutely no reason why any sort of planetary or cosmic event should impact one's ability to lucid dream, or why. If anything of this nature actually happens, I will eat my keyboard.

If this is true, it may be likely.

I don't believe in any 2012 theories but if I had to make/take one, it would be.

We show signs of a magnetic reversal soon. Maybe our brains have some sort of magnetic force and with the pole switch everything will mess up. @_@

It will certainly destroy a ton of our electronics though.

I'm pretty sure that a magnetic flip wouldn't annihilate all electronic devices on Earth. It isn't a violent "flip" that actually occurs; rather, it is a gradual changing. The magnetic field is temporarily nullified as multiple poles around the globe split off and cancel each other out. After a short while, the poles begin to accumulate at opposite sides of the world, where they strengthen into the two new poles. In short, no, electronic devices would not be fried, and I seriously doubt that it would have any impact at all on one's dreaming. You can place individuals in magnetic fields, and nothing in the least happens to them or their thought processes. The ions in the brain are paramagnetic, so they are not impacted by regular magnetic fields.

But unless the Earth's field had a similar rate of change to that
experienced in an extreme magnetic storm I think most things would take
it in their stride. Big continental power grids with long wires would be
the most likely to drop out.

Only thing to really change would be compasses. Instead of putting red Fred in the shed, you'd have to use the other end.

Actually the Mayan calendar is just ending an era based on the revolutions of the Earth around the sun. In December in 2012 the sun is going to be directly aligned with the middle of the Milky Way galaxy from Earths point of view.

Some scientists also believe that the sun will have large solar flairs which will heat up the Earth causing the ice caps to melt.

But I think that is unlikely and neither of those things will have anything to do with people having lucid dreams

of course, I did get swine flu but, it was a nice break from school that I needed. Stomach flu is way worse. The only problem was you had sleep paralysis every time you woke up. (I didn't know about LDing back then. Maybe I should try to go get it again!)

Someone posted a great comic on the Mayans... one dude holding up the calendar and saying to his buddy, "I got up to 2012, then I ran out of room."

My theory: They worked up to 2012 and though, "Alright, seriously, anyone else can figure out the rest..."

The sun and the center of the galaxy are always aligned, because two points are always aligned with each other. That's why it only makes sense talking about 'alignement' if we're dealing with 3 or more objects.

Anyway, gravity and electromagnetism, which are the only 2 long distance forces that act upon celestial bodies, do not specially care for alignments.

There's increased sun activity predicted for 2012, but the dangers from there are those of electromagnetic interference.

The best solution I can come up with is we all drink copious amounts of alcohol on December 11, 2012 so we either don't care if the world ends / party if it turns out to be a hoax.

Not at all. The earth's magnetic field is generated by the movement of fluid material inside, not by the sun.

That's is a cool prediction. Though it is unlikely to happen, I wish it did.

If this happened there'd be a surge in epic fantasy movies about three years later. This, I would be very happy for!

my theroy is that on that date something will happen, but it will not be the end of the world then. Maybe we will discover something that will cause a series of events that will actually lead to the end of the world as we know it.
