Thread: You Or 10 Others?

morally, ofcourse, is letting yourself die, and the 10 other people live...

but personally, i'd say that i'd choose to live myself...

just because i like living... and you never know who those 10 people are...

Well, I think just about everyone would pick themselves over 10 uknowns to be honest. I think a better question would be something harder like you or your best friend, your love ones, etc. That would be more complicated scenario.

I'd definitely want to live. Other people die everyday.

I'd chose to live, however I'd wonder, do they have the same choice and I'm one of the unknown 10?

Maybe if i knew who the other 10 were or read a profile (documentry) of their lifes. But with no knowleg it would just be another one of millions that die. Even so, i might still pick life

I tend to see life as my own creation. I don't think I'm god, but at the same time, the way I see it, everything is based on my perception. The only reason this forum exists is because I think it exists. The 10 people in the afformentioned scenario exist because I believe they exist. They die if I think they die, and they live if I think they live.

The way I see it, I'm not really sending this message to anyone, but rather I'm sending it to the internet that I believe exists. And all the other members of this forum exist because I believe they exist.

That sounds repetitive, but it doesn't matter. I don't think anyone will mention it.

Or will they?

Life can't be your creation when it's already mine! Your only here cause of my perception. The only reason this forum exists is cause I'm on it. The 10 people don't really exist therefor they can't die and you cannot make them live cause there not.

In a heart beat, hell Id do the same with almost any amount of people as long as I did not know them. Selfish I know but my life is all about me really. I gain nothing from the sacrifice and lose consciousness forever [ If infact there is no after life]. Doesn't seem like much of a choice to me.

No, the existance of others but oneself cannot be proven.

Personally I believe there is a possibility the others around me not being real, but I believe they most likely are as real as me.

Thanks. I had to resize it though (ever so slightly) because Burns told me off. It's still over limit, but less over-limit now.

Everyone seems to be acting like they would hate to die. Sure... you might love living, but you can't actually hate being dead. You can appreciate being alive, but cannot be sad dead. Lets see, a reason why someone might want to "let 10 others" live is really to think about the damage it would cause on the people that they knew. 10 other entire families and groups of friends having someone in their life die is much worse than having me die. I assume you mean in a "drop dead" sort of way, because there is more of a "self-preservation" aspect to it when it comes to dieing in a painful way. I am not "emo" or anything when putting out these opinions. I have millions more things I look forward to in life and am excited for when they come. But you can't think "wow, if I don't get the chance to do that because I die I would be sad." This is not a legitimate thought. I would love to travel - but I wouldn't be sad that I didn't travel if I was dead. I wouldn't want myself to die because I want to do so much more... but I really think that 10 people dieing would cause much more grief than one.

I'm not saying I would die, though. If someone said they would kill me or 10 people... I would probably hurt the person. I don't negotiate in those situations

Id probably let 10 people die... I dont really have to think about it.

I would sacrifice myself so that the others may live and this is why:

In my seeking I have found only one truth. To exist is to suffer. I would see the ending of my own life a release from my personal suffering. It just happens that my beliefs go hand in hand with what could be deemed as morality. I would feel great joy from sacrificing myself for ten unknown others and I would take even greater joy in ending my suffering on this earth.
