Cool Dominic Miracle
Cool Dominic Miracle
Here is a miracle like one of yours.
Dominic was caught up in the Wars of Heresy in Southern France. A Spanish Baron had decided to take the side of the Heretics and had sent an Army of 5000 Knights into the Provinces. The Contingent for whom Dominic was Chaplain, under the command of a Sir Roger, was taken quite by surprise and they were forced to take cover in a Castle where they were besieged. There were only 800 of them.
When it appeared that they would starve, Sir Roger sent a message out that he would engage in Battle the next Day… better to die fighting then to die starving. And then he went and asked Dominic to administer last rites to himself and his men, and to apologize for having lead him to death. Dominic rejected the apology and told Sir Roger that he had tried to thank God for arranging for him to be a Martyr but that the Angels had come and rebuked him for his Pride, and that being a Martyr would be denied him. So Dominic concluded that, although he did not know how, they were not in such serious danger as Roger thought. Roger was puzzled.
The next morning, Roger looked out over the Battlements and was mindboggled by what he saw. The Spanish Baron, to get a good look at the Battle that was to ensue was behind only about 50 ranks of Horse Cavalry. Quickly doing the Math, Roger figured he could divide his 800 Heavy Armored Mounted Knights into 50 rows of 16 each. 8 Knights could push out and block to the right, and the other 8 to the left, so that the next Row of 16 could push through and similarly block their opposition to the outside while the next and the next and the next plunged through. The Idea had come to him in an instantaneous flash of insight.
The Gates of the Castle opened and out charged Sir Roger’s Knights with mathematical precision, and the Spanish Baron was captured in a manner of minutes. The fighting stopped immediately because it made no sense for the Spanish to fight without a paycheck – they had to come to Terms or they would not be paid… as simple as that.
And Dominic was quick to praise Sir Roger saying “God and then I knew he would think of something”.
