Evangelicals don't even follow the actual words of the scriptures so I'm not surprised by anything they do. They also make Christians look bad.Sorry I'm not more elaborate but It's the same story with them and it's been that way for years.
Many people will not even read this because the title will be so offensive and simply because peope are lazy or don't care. However, I just wanted to say that I really dispise anyone who indoctrinates their children, or other children, into a system of belief of any kind. Evangelicalism is the most notable of doing this in North America.
You can see Evangelism in action yourself from such movies as:
Hell House - houses intended to scare the shit out of children into believing in Christianity:
+ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0301235/
Jesus Camp - disciplining children and the forceful indoctrination of children into faith:
And sporadic presentations to chidlren on the "wrongs" of evolution and science:
More importantly, notice in the above video the "we believe in God", the use of ad hominems against evolution, the appeal of intelligent deisgn, the attack against dinosaurs, watch the adults "teach kids" as the children naturally assimilate what they said.
Apparently "I believe that's not true" disproves millions of pieces of fossil evidence, carbon dating, and all forms of rational evidence. The collateral damage is the brain-washing of young children into a faith. Dawkins was right calling it is a virus when it is preached forcefully to children.
Handing down books "How to refute evolution" and teaching classes on it, what is the real intention here? Enlightening your children..? Or recruiting them? If it was enlightening, it would be taught with free and open language, the "some people believe this" and "this is a faith, especially when you consider the evidence" and to consider the rational and reasonable evidence. Is not enlightenment and teaching to offer all forms of knowledge to your children? Not just one?
Most importantly, the bible is not the word of God. Some will smirk at that comment, but the fact is that the bible has been translated many, many times. That itself is enough to show that the english version of the bible is NOT the word of God. At best, even for the faithful, it is a translation. Even if St. Michael spoke to Paul, as he proclaimed, he was still translating the language down himself, not Michael. Please consider my bible problems for further elaboration. The point is, it is not the permanent and embedded word of God.
"Schools are biased towards evolution."
- Why?! Because it's TRUE. There's evidence for it. This is like trying to say the theory of gravity is bias. This is where the creationist falls and depserately pleads, "Well, maybe God created evoltuion."
"Who told you that? [to not believe in evoltion]"
"My parents"
Case in point. Don't brainwash your children.
What do you think...?

That is one of the sickest things I have ever seen. I came across stuff like that as a kid, and now I am pissed. That garbage is exactly what has me on the internet arguing about Christianity now, like right this moment. Fundamentalists create vindictive atheists. Spread the word.
I think it's bullshit.
For fuck's sake if u wanna beleive every word in the bible you dont have to make your children beleive it too.
Makes me think of how pissed my dad and step-mom were when they learned i was an athiest. Step mom told me that when i turned 18 she wanted me out of the house and to not come back. Dad just insulted me, called me stupid.
yay religon!
This shit never happens to me
The more I read your posts the more I think we are of a very similar background. Fundies do create very vigorous atheism; not because we are in such "rebellion from God" (as my dad says) but because we remember the fear and the hate that was spread because of it. AND, more importantly, the fear and the hate that WE spread because we were taught it was absolute truth. I went to Liberty University's version of this Hell House. I went to camps similar to Jesus Camp. I thought gays were evil, I thought atheists were scum, I thought Muslims were deluded, etc etc.
So yes, fundies create vindictive atheists, and I am proud to be debating on the side of rationality now.

Indoctrinating your children in to believing anything is arguably one of the most horrible form of abuse you can commit.
It's one thing to make your child aware of other beliefs. It's another thing altogether to force yours on to them.

If this was a "You rage you lose" thread, I lost. Terribly. ):
Some don't play fair. They don't rely on evidence to control the minds of children, because it is much easier to use social methods, a language any child understands, rooted deeper than logic. If it was enlightening, it would be taught with free and open language, the "some people believe this" and "this is a faith, especially when you consider the evidence" and to consider the rational and reasonable evidence.
Poor kids. So easily swayed by fun times and group conformity. If I was that age, I could see myself agreeing, too. Especially if all of my friends were watching me in front of that camera. You agree, you are accepted by all around you. You disagree, you are rejected by everyone (or at least, you think it to be everyone. You're only five.) with no foreseeable way out.
Hell houses, hmm. I can see some real damage being done there.
I think, with the rise of the internet (and, younger and younger users), children will come in contact with a variety of beliefs and arguments. And, really, I think children will use the internet as a first resource for religion. It is much less stressful to Google "Does hell really exist?" than to ask a parent.
Abraxas

Fu*king shit. Disturbing the childhood of kids (and others) everywhere.
We should make an organization and create booklets. Subtle, yet convincing enough to rid the children of this garbage.
I knew about a lot of this stuff, but this is the first time I see footage from a hell house rehearsal. That is really sickening. I was bordering on nausea during the hell house video, at the thought that those people could fuck up their own children in such a disgusting way.
It's not offensive O'nus, this is genuinely sick. How, as a parent, could they ever wish to purposely scare the living shit out of their own children? Does it even occur to them that these kids might come back one day with psychological problems and a gun because of it?
And I loved the part in the Jesus Camp trailer where she mentions the "camps in Palestine". Not exactly the best thing to compare your own camps to, but this "anti-Palestine" mindset is not all that uncommon in the Evangelical population. I made a habit of calling them the Zionist Christians because of how they adamantly defend the expansion of Israel at the expense of what used to be a sovereign nation.

^^^^^ Makes me sick.
We need that in my home town, scare all those gay kids to stay in the closet where they belong.
YOU'LL PRETEND YOU LIKE WOMEN AND THAT'S THAT MISTER!
Scare them into thinking they made a choice. Seriously, what gay person is not automatically an atheist as soon as they hear this shit then realize they like the same sex? Well, there are plenty of gay churches, but I mean they're not fundamentalist.

I would love to see a reandom nickelodeon comercial.
