      God's change of heart

As most of you know the Old Testament compared to that of the New Testament are very different.

Something that Richard Dawkins had said reaffirmed something that I have pondered before.
The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.

The common belief is that the New Testament was from the apostles and during the witness of Jesus and so on and so forth. Obviously different authors.
But isn't really God who is the author to all of the bible? It is the word of God. I realize that it was written by a wide variety of different people, God handed down the words.
In any of the incidents that this may not be the case, God would never allow the wrong thing to be written in the Bible.

What I am about to argue is that god is not the author of either the new or old testament. It is just lonely old us humans with a complete different perspective from one era to the next.
Compare that to the possibilities to that of us writing our own scripture today?

      Maybe he grew up?

Or maybe God was just the personification of life in the old testament, while in the new testament, with the help of cannabis based psychedelic ointment John used to baptize Jesus, a new perspective on this personification was enabled.

When a child reaches a certain age, a successful parent will change their tactics for parenting. Where the adolescent may need strict authority, the teenager may need understanding and subtle guidance.

The ability to happily respond to any adversity is the divine.

      This is vague.

You can call the Reniassance a piece of humanity's "puberty", if you will. We stopped believing in the fairy tales told to us by our parents, and actually began to question things at a much faster rate. Though I can't say the same for all other cultures on the planet.

In that case we've been prepubescent hundreds of times longer than we've been postpubescent.

I like looking at it as the way we view God, rather than the way God views us. Like I said, Jesus did the mushrooms. Well, no he didn't but he used ancient hebrew psychedelics and the entire New Testament is about his ideas and stuff. The Old Testament is just a book of laws written by a people struggling to do the best they could and understand the universe.

So, while the God of the old testament reflects every act of nature and is the personification of life, meaning all random occurrences are attributed to it, the new testament reflects man's new maturity when it comes to their ideas on how to be a good person, and how to be happy.

Why do you think that God would never allow the wrong thing to be written in the Bible?

You can not know what God would allow.

I was not implying that I new what he would allow. I'm not presenting this as a truth.

I don't know that. It is merely speculation on my part.
A lot of the Biblical word is already hard for much of our modern culture to understand. IMO even more so the Hebrew in Old Testament. I took the assumption that god would want at least one thing set in stone, the one thing that he and his son praise us to follow.
Why would he insist on us following a book with false information?

So why would he? To further prove our devoted and unconditional faith?

Under that, all ideas of God disappear.
You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.

the God of the old testament reflects everything about your typical man.

even I almost fit the entire bill.

personally, if a God like this really existed (and showed himself to the world on a regular basis) life would be very very interesting.

God is acting like a vengeful tyrant one minute, and then a loving nurturer in the next....

      ...clearly, God is a woman

Why did everyone ignore Ominus's post? I think he has a very good point and I tend to agree with him.
