I believe in God because he once came to me and spoke to me.
Well this is probably going to sound a little strange but here we go.
Basically as we all know many hundreds of religions have existed over the past thousands of years. Many we don't remember in any way, some we have tiny amounts of information on, some we know a lot about but find their mythology, beliefs etc almost laughable etc. Everyone knows this to be true and yet when I ask people about why they believe their religion is the one true religion they generally say "because my holy book/God says so", obviously not that directly but that is the basic message. They also believe their religion is the correct path to God and a positive afterlife and other religions are wrong. However it seems to me that they do not consider the fact in a few thousand years their religion will almost certainly be a distant memory. Religions have more longevity in these modern times since they can spread globally however in time all religions seem to fracture into many denomination which slowly begin to conflict with each other more and more until they may as well be entirely separate. I remember a news report last year about a religion which is based in the east that is basically dying out. They are persecuted by Muslims and there are very few left. Some live in England but they say because they have no places to build their temples they cannot properly pass on their religion to their children and so in a few generations it will be lost. Now their God is obviously not stopping this, in a thousand years their religion may be gone completely yet their God has not come down to save them. Just like Zeus does not come down now to try and revive the religion of the Ancient Greeks.
I mean what if in 5,000 years Christianity is gone. Maybe a new religion with a completely different doctrine has evolved, or religion itself has faded away to small pockets of the world. Does that mean Christianity was false? Their God did not come down to save their dying faith. Just like the Norse religion, the Norse Gods have not come back to reveal themselves to us, was their religion all a lie?
I know most of that was a rambling mess but I hope you understand, at least in part, what I am getting at. It seems no religions last forever, their Gods die with them, I suppose I am asking..why? Why does this happen, why do these ultimate beings not stop it? What if we end up with a world of atheists in 10,000 years as technology as solved every question we have. Does that mean religion was nothing?
any input is great. I just wanted to get my thoughts down I suppose.

Dude did he offer you cheaper electricity? Because I keep answering the phone and this robotic voice keeps telling me I could be getting a better deal. Is it a sign? A sign I should create some kind of electricity based belief system where he hail Nikola Tesla as some kind of God and have tesla coils everywhere!![]()

Could it be, that maybe the same God of Christianity is also the same God of Islam, which is the same God of Judaism, which is the same god as the supreme ruler in Hinduism? And this God will be the same God in all religions to come. Hence making religion nothing more than a set of man-made beliefs and customs to accompany faith the same God.
Religion is moot. But God is always here.
...and I really don't care if I never wake up again
-As far as right and wrong, I know the difference. But right is oh so dull, and no one's interested.
-Raise up your head, unclasp your hands. Your weakness makes me tremble, True strength comes from within. And we were given this life to live. Not exist by standards set by some bullshit rulebook.
Religion to me is like one of those re-packaged gifts. You know those gifts that you're not really sure what to do with but it's a gift so it's there and the only thing you can really do is re-gift it.
- Fear of death, meaninglessness, etcetera.
- Tradition and conditioning, believing what is told to you from birth.
- Apathy, not bothering to think about it; a lack of perspective.
soft she stirs on starlit sand,
and clasps wet shore within her hand.
she turns to face the silent seas,
and through her heart, a vital breeze.
she wonders at this strange new land.
