Why do you believe what you believe?

This is more specifically for religion (or lack of), but it can really apply to any topic of existence.
Why are you agnostic?
Why are you a Sikh?
Why are you a Christian?
Why?
Lets use this thread to explain what we believe so that others can better understand. Let's not use this thread to critique others beliefs, there are enough threads on that already.

I am an agnostic atheist. I am not convinced that a god exists, however I realize that there is a possibility that some god exists, and I cannot rule that out because I don't like to deal in absolutes. That being said I don't let that affect my decisions on how I live my life. I am an atheist because I fail to see empirical evidence for a god, and the strict moral codes of most religions are an incredible turn off for me. I would consider myself a secular humanist, and my overall view on MY existence is that I should use my life for the betterment of as many people as possible (I guess I'm realistic...), yet how one wants to use their own life is ultimately their choice.

Just so no one interprets me wrong, I do not consider my atheism to be a belief, as it is not faith based. Though I am not convinced that a god exists, that doesn't mean I have faith that a god doesn't exist.

I believe in god....

I dont believe in religion.

Ive yet to see any proof that god does or doesn't exist... So well, id rather believe there's higher life forms out there then us. And not aliens, those guys who helped make the bible hehe. Also every other religion in this world... Silly aliens.... Getting involved with humans, now we all think there a imaginary god from the "Sky"....

I'm an Orthodox Christian, and mainly because I believe in God and think that of all religions, Orthodoxy has been least misused (except maybe Buddhism). Here people are more laid back about religion, not many go to church or think wwjd before they make a decision and that's why I think there aren't as many atheists here. Also you don't get to go to hell if you don't believe, and the whole concept of hell is different that the pop culture one, invented by catholics to scare people into accepting christianity. Silly catholics.

I'm an atheist who believes that there are alternate universes that are more powerful than our own. I believe that there might be a higher power but not a god in any way. Sometimes I will question my own atheistic views. Just to be safe I pray to Satan because maybe he'll like me by the time I go to hell. If I have Satan on my side nothing will go wrong.

But really I'm an atheist.

I'm an atheist. It makes the most sense with the information I have to work from, i.e. lack of logic and, well, proof, behind any form of theology I've ever come across.

I believe what I believe because my experience and the information given leads me to such conclusions.

But in my world, concrete conclusions are few and far between.

Everything else is just a work in progress.

My beliefs are based on the evidence available to me and logical and rational contemplation on that evidence. I don't know if I'm capable of actually defining my beliefs as easily as others here who are blessed with a label that applies to them, but doing a search for threads that I've created might give you an idea of what my beliefs are.

Pagan.

Some beliefs I have I'm not 100% sure of.

The ones I hold to be true, I've experienced firsthand.

Experience.

I would consider myself a Zen Buddhist.

Buddhism (all schools) is the most intriguing of all religions, mythologies, philosophies, etc, I think.

Is there a single, true God, creator of the universe?

Legitimate theism to me is about personal experiences which I cannot relate to (yet hopefully), and all atheism is about is lack of evidence which is NOT an answer.

I'm atheist. I'm just pulling a number out of my ass here but I'm sure there is atleast 2000 different gods being worshipped through different religions/sects right now. Well guess what? Everyone claims their own god to be the true one. So if over 99% of all religion is made-up fairy tale garbage, why not all of it?

I often wonder what it would be like to be one of our ancestors 50,000 years ago. Hunting and gathering, sitting around a camp fire. It makes complete sense why an animal capable of this type of thinking would make up gods. Just IMAGINE looking at the stars, and pondering what they are. The universe wasn't explainable, it was unpredictable, chaotic. Clouds, rain, lightning, tornadoes, disease, death, life in general, could not be explained. The tools weren't readily available yet. Humans weren't ready to find out the truth at this stage so they made up gods. It's completely understandable.

Whether my beliefs are correct or not, they're what I was raised with, and so what I'm most comfortable with.

All gods are just exemplification of the divine. We can all pray, cast spells, meditate to "different" gods but we would all be sending them to the same places.

If there was anything out there, the only thing that would be able to explain it is science. I know religious people don't like to admit it, but science, or "cosmos" (order), is the first known contradiction to mysticism (religion as we know it). It's natural for humans to not want to give up their belief systems. So everytime a new scientific discovery comes out that might threaten ones beliefs, they simply incorporate it into "god's plan".

I believe because i wanna believe, ignorant as it may sound or not, i'll believe what i wanna believe because i can believe in what i wanna believe. Of course it needs reason, i wont believe in the tooth fairy because i wanna, tooth fairy is fake and i already know it therefore i wont believe in the tooth fairy.

None of my beliefs have ever been disproved by science, I can't speak for Christianity but..

i don't know what to call myself.
i used to be able to say, hey i am a christian but now, not so sure...
i believe in god, and i love him, i know he is there and all but i don't agree with alot of what the christians do...
i don't think homosexuality is wrong, i think cursing is okay. drinking and smoking and all that "bad stuff" is fine with me.
i think he understands why i do what i do.
i think he is okay with me being who i am cuz if not, then fine, don't love me for me, he's not forced to.
he can either love me or not. i love i him althoguh i do question him alot.
i am (whatever i would be called) because i think he is here. i think that he loves us, and i think that he created all of everything. he died for us and i think that that was a great sacrifice.
so yeah.
