      Alternative sleep pattern

      Hello everyone,

it's been a while since I posted (hollidays ), and I wanted to bring a project of mine under attention.

I got interested in sleep patterns such as biphasic sleep and am now experimenting with my own variant.

I devided my night into four fases. Each consisting of 1.5 hours of sleep and 1/5 hour of relaxing awake. It is based on the 90 minute sleep cycle theory which is the base of most polyphasic sleeppatterns...

I would like to hear your opinions and perhaps some constructive feedback...

      Greets

Whenever I hear about bi-phasic or poly-phasic sleep, I think of that Seinfeld episode where kramer tries and get's really messed up.

I've never tried it, but this guy has: http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/200...yphasic-sleep/

Hope that link give you some good input.

I kept to an everyman schedule (3-hour core at night, 3 20-minute naps during the day) for 6 months. It was a very interesting experience, I'd recommend it to anybody but it takes a certain kind of person to make a schedule like that work.

Your proposed schedule is kind of weird, what makes you want to do it this way instead of everyman or biphasic (or uberman)?

I'm curious, do you dream the same length? Or does it seem more short? I understand you enter REM faster.. but isn't a cycle 45 minutes? so leaving you with 20 minutes, would be shorter dreams? right?

I guess it would be more dreams, and easier to remember though.

Theoretically more dreams and easier to remember, but in my experience it just didn't work out like that.

When you're only sleeping for 20 minutes at a time, obviously the REM cycle needs to be shorter. Your body adjusts to the new schedule, and drops into some kind of "super-REM" sleep in order to get all it needs over the course of the day's naps.

Apparently a side-effect of the change to the REM cycle is that it is nearly impossible to remember the dreams. At least in my experience.
