      Can't fall back asleep...

It's 5:13 in the morning now, on a Monday morning, about 30 minutes before I need to get up for school. I woke myself up at 4:00am to go get a drink and go back to bed... and I haven't been able to fall asleep.

Naturally I'm extremely frustrated at myself for wasting 2 hours, but on a more rational scale, why am I having such a hard time? I was only asleep for about 5 hours before hand!

Perhaps you are too frustrated, or you are constantly thinking. Try and clear your mind. I like to say this in my head when I am ready to sleep. "Clear my mind of all thoughts, and go to sleep."

Did you have a lot on your mind? Anyway, should this happen again. I recommend performing a relaxation exercise in which you tense up your muscles starting at your feet and working your way up to your eyelids. This should sufficiently relax your body enough to reenter the sleep state.

I didn't have too much on my mind. Did fairly poorly on a science test (it was a pop test. Such a terrible idea should not exist!), but it wasn't even on my mind at that time. I think I must have gotten into this sort of physcological worry where I watch the clock ticking by and start calculating how many hours I have left until I need to get up. That is never helpful.

Also, it was a Sunday night/monday morning, and my sleeping schedule is always knocked out of alignment because of that - sleeping in, then waking up early...etc

Your idea sounds great, actually. I will definitely try it from now on.

God I hated pop tests while in school . And yes I agree, academia should rid itself of such injustice...at least for the sake of our youths sanity, if nothing else . Anyway, let me know how that works out for you.
