      meditation question

Im not sure if this is the right section, or where else to put it.

but anyways, when ever i try to meditate, I conciously breath, which makes it nearly impossible. All i can do is realize how annoying it is, and i start breathing weird and its very uncomfortable. I start taking really small breaths and its annoying.

how can i breath non conciously?

      Relax~

Meditate with music, if it helps you. Get comfortable, of course remember, you're meditating, not falling asleep. :]
Let your thoughts flow, don't let any one thought weigh you down. Let your mind do what it wants~

It's a personal experience, for sure. Just relax.

well that's interesting because in some forms of meditation you're supposed to breathe consciously, and come to notice the spaces between inhalation and exhalation and vice versa. the breath is a potent object for meditation, so... breathe.. deeper.

Oh of course, I was only going by how I myself meditate. If the OP'd like to elaborate on his method of breathing, then i could of course re-phrase my advice~
I've taken almost a year of Vinyasa style yoga, so I'll try as best I can to try and see from your perspective.

So using that method, how should one react to sensations coming in from the external environment. For example music or something distracting like cars going by. When it's your own thoughts you can become conscious of it then move on to another thought, but when it's something like a sound you become conscious of it but can't remove it.
Thus the aesthetically sensitive man stands in the same relation to the reality of dreams as the philosopher does to the reality of existence; he is a close and willing observer, for those images afford him an interpretation of life, and by reflecting on these processes he trains himself for life. - Nietzsche

You shift your awareness back to the object of your focus, such as your breath.

Well, from my experience is that when meditating you should be aware of what your body is doing without manipulating it.
The rythym of your own, unfocused breathing becomes relaxing. Just lower your pulse and then let your breathing does what it does naturally, and go with it.

The key is to not focus on it.

Mediation is not just about sitting there breathing and staring at the blackness behind your eyelids, its much much more than that. Its about focus.

Some mediation require that you focus on your breathing yes but if this is hard for you then dont do it yet.

Start of with just noticing yourself, scan your body for tension, just feel your body with your mind, do it now, I bet you are holding your jaw a little tight or maybe a muscle in your leg. When you focus on it, it goes away, this is a form of meditation, you just scan your body and focus your mind on that section, feel how it feels, feel as the body part responds to your awareness, who it changes, do not try and do anything rather then become aware, and the rest will take care of it self.

There are hundreds of books and websites on meditation and a lot of it, well let me rephrase that, all of it should be something you are comfortable in.

instead of focusing on your breathing try the above, if you dont like the sound of that download some brainwave entertainment gear and use that, meditate on a candle a picture a memory, anything you like, just remember to focus but do not interfere, just notice.

If you sit there long enough you'll forget about the breathing. But I definitely think listening to something relaxing is a good idea. It helps me..

I used to be bamboozled by "think of nothing" or "let your thoughts flow." Then, one day, I thought if it would help to look through a glass dome, and seeing a clear blue sky. Then I also started doing what I call "easy-breathing." Inhale your lungs fully for 5 seconds, pause for 5 seconds, and exhale for 5 seconds. This, combined with the glass dome technique, completely obliterated any mist or haziness regarding meditation. You just are when you meditate.
The question is What is the question?
      Thanks, Jeff777, for adopting me.
