Thread: Catnip + Cats To Induce Lucidity?

Wow that's really weird that you say that; I have three cats too and last night I teased my BF that to lucid dream I needed to let the cats sleep with us (usually we lock them out so we don't have nocturnal galloping over us, treading on us, whiskers and purring in the face, etc. I'm sure you know all about it.) Anyway I was just joking, but you thought of it too.

Can't you get catnip already dried? You just need a little and you won't have to bother with a plant that way.

Let us know what happens. Oh yea mine always start fighting when I give them catnip, I guess the're mean drunks.

Keeping my door open to let the cats walk around definitely helps me remember dreams better because they often knock something over and wake me up.

You can get a catnip spray, less hassle than a plant and I think the cats would really start to piss me off if they were permanently high on catnip cus they go bloody psycho!

I would have thought the cats would be too much of a distraction to help induce a WILD.

That was also my initial thought. Usually people need complete quiet and no distractions to successfully WILD - but whatever works for you.

Cats can be excellent alarm clocks in the morning. Mine have induced accidental WBTBs from time to time.

Regarding catnip - some cats don't respond to the herb, especially kittens. It really depends on the cat. Some get really hyperactive, and sometimes aggressive, under its influence, and others only show mild changes in behavior.

Taz has an annoying habit, if you put him in the same room as you while you're sleeping, of jumping up on the bed, sitting beside your face, reaching out with his paw and tapping you on the face. At 4am, he'll bat your face with his paw, and when you wake up moaning and grumbling he'll chirp his strange meow, walk over to the door, stand up and hit the doorknob with his paw and look back over at you with his head and meow again.

He's VERY intelligent. He's even learnt how to open doors and turn doorknobs, how to use the doorknocker on the front door... whoever said animals weren't intelligent?

Yeah 1 of my 3 cats is Very intelligent too. We named him Barney. When he wants food, to go outside or he just wants attention he'll just give you this look that'll instantly let you know what he wants. He'll scratch on the door untill you go nuts and open it. When you do he just walks away. He doesn't per say wanna come in; he just likes the idea of all doors being open If he wants food he'll just lead me downstairs and into the kitchen and look up. It's almost like a Psychic Conversation in a Language beyond words.

I think I could try and find out if Catnip has any effect on him by buying dried catnip herb by putting it in small cotton bags and hanging them on cords in my room close to the ground.

Wouldn't work for me. My cat is 75% psycho and if he's in the same room as I sleep he usually hops up on me and attacks my hair. He's wakened me out of a few good dreams lately.

I did have a cat before, when I was a kid, that would curl up on and sleep in little dip in my back just above the tail bone. I'd fall alseep easily and have nice dreams as opposed to the apocalyptic dreams that used to constantly haunt me. It was sort of like pet therapy that managed to work it's way into my dreams.

Cats to induce lucidity does sound like a good idea though... if you've the right pets for the job.

Yeah, my cat Barney is very relaxed and layed back. Sometimes he awoke me by chewingb on my nose though Cats are wierd. But he's older and lazier now. I've got one other crazy cat but when she's in my room she'll usually settle down and sleep next to me.

But the thing is; I can fall alseep really deeply and really fast fairly easy when there's like 3 people around me having a busy conversation. If I'm very tired |I find the background noise of the conversation actually help me relax further and remove myself more from that conversation: My enviroment. It makes me feel very disociated and zoned out. I guess cats walking around all the time would do somewhat the same only more subtile so I can still fall asleep easy when I'm not really hella tired too.

Why don't you just try some music or the television in the background?

Because are a ''presence'' you can notice near you. The TV is just, as you said, background noise that'll eventually loose your attention as you fall asleep. The presence of living creatures feels different and is strikingly noticable without it actually keeping you from sleep with sound or light.

You are absolutely right! The past two days I have had lucid dreams, and it is because of my cat Ming. He came into my room both days at about 8 o'clock, dabbing my face with his paw and just wanting attention. I woke up and petted him for a bit, then he curled up and I fell back asleep. He is an excellent WBTB on the weekends
