Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, but I've been learning about lucid dreaming for several years.
I also just decided to quit smoking, so I bought some of those Nicoderm CQ patches. I was reading the warnings on the box, and it warned that you "may experience vivid dreams," which intrigued me. It said to remove the patch at night if that occurred. I said, "like hell I will..."
As it turns out, THEY WEREN'T KIDDING! For the past 3 nights, I have had the coolest, most detailed dreams. I'm talking several full episodes that I totally remember when I wake up. I'd wake up and go "woa that was awesome," and fall asleep and immediately start another adventure. I have been having 4-5 main episodes with several other minor episodes (that I forget easily when I wake up) per night. Has anyone else had similar experiences while using Nicoderm patches? Has anyone here ever tried those patches?
A couple of times in the past few nights I have become semi lucid, but not fully. I really haven't been attempting to become lucid though, because the dream's as they were have been interesting enough. I think I may try tonight though, for kicks. I'm usually the most successful with the technique in which you focus on your forehead after awaking from a dream and repeating something to the effect of "I'm dreaming, I'm in a dream. The next thing I see will be a dream." etc. Can't remember what the technique is called.
Anyway, one thing that I do know for sure is that these patches make me have a REM cycle FILLED with extremely vivid, memorable dreams, every night that I'm wearing one. Its great! BTW I'm using STEP 1 of the patches which has 21mg of nic into your bloodstream over 24 hours.![]()

If you try these when you're not a smoker, could that make you addicted?
Yes. so if you shouldn't try it more than once a week, or better yet two weeks.

Is it unhealthy?
Thanks!
Yes, Nicotine is very unhealthy and aslo addictive. But if you put the patch only rarely, it will probably not be so bad. Also limit your self to the lowest dose patch that you can find, and also put it only when doing WBTB, and not before you go to bed, and take it off immidiatly as you wake up.

I tried this last night. I don't smoke (yeh I know stupid, but I thought what the hell, once won't hurt). I got the lowest strength Nicorette patch which cost me £15.
So I woke-up at about 6a.m and put the patch on. I was worried because I only got the 16 hour patch and you're supposed to take it off at night. So I was lying there worrying about it and after like 5 mins I had to take it off! It made me feel really sick (not physically, just mentally thinking about the nicotine going through my body). So I don't think I'll use it again, that's £15 I'll never get back!
Anyway-my dreams. Well I had one after I took the patch off and it was quite vivid and kinda scary-not a nightmare as such, but it was really long and had a story. It involved my brother chasing after me trying to kill me! I have had these sort of dreams before with people chasing me, but not for a while. I doubt the patch did much seeing as it was only on me for barely 5 mins, but maybe it was a placebo because I was thinking I might have a nightmare and/or vivid dream. None of it was lucid though.
So yeh, to sum-up, use it if you're going to quit smoking but I wouldn't advise it if you don't smoke!
I am (still) a smoker, but I tried quitting a few months ago. The gum and the whole "cold turkey" method do not work... so.... I tried the patch, and OMG! I have never had better dreams... They were the most vivid dreams.. I could actually "feel" things... mostly sex dreams... almost as good as real life.. haha.. I never went lucid in them because I didnt want to.. the dreams seemed better than being lucid... there is no way I could imagine doing anything better in them.. lol
this is going on my task list. I'm not a smoker, but I'll only do it a couple of times

LD Tasks:
-> Have MILDs at will
-> Ask my subconcsious mind something deep (i.e. the meaning of life)
-> Have a fight controlling bullet-time
-> Call my cell phone and ask the DC who he is
when I go out at night I tend to smoke a lot more than usual and when I go to bed I usually have much more vivid dreams and they're easier to recall. Don't know if it could have an influence...
LD count: 25 and counting

Pretty straightforward explaination - nicotine DOES affect dreams. I don't remember the exact reason why, but it has been proven hence the warning. This said, as a smoker, the 2nd to last thing before I go to bed is to have a cigarette. I normally smoke ultra lights, but I have a pack of Lucky Strike Silver for LDing.

Will the gum and lozenges work too? After trying the patch, I really don't want to again. Can I just get the gum/lozenge and take it in the middle of the night? Think the gum etc is cheaper too than the patches.

I'll try it when I get some cash, but you are right, I don't want to get addicted, so will only try it occasionally. I'll let you know the results when I buy some lozenges or gum.
