As far as my mum is concerned (nurse for about 15 years) the whole milk helps you sleep thing is a myth. Maybe it does help LDing, but it doesn't help you get to sleep in the first place.
hows the stuff work?

Adopted Megabenman although he disappeared a while ago.
Milk contains tryptophan, which will make you feel sleepy. The temperature doesn't matter, however.

Recently I've found out I'm allergic [again] to cows milk..
just though I'd throw that in.
Some are born to sweet delight,
Some are born to endless night.
I don't know why people say warm milk works.... maybe it does..
WAIT! Can you put strawberry syrup in it?![]()

As for me, I can't stand milk by itself. The only way I ever consume it is combined with cereal. I glad there's cereal so I can end up getting my calcium!
But, yes I think there may be something to the milk before bed thing, in that it makes you sleep longer. A couple of weeks ago I finally had a signifcant lucid dream again, and I believe it was possible because I had slept from like 11pm to 9am. I remember having milk and cereal the night before, and I believe it may have been the milk that made me sleep so long. I know some people think b6 may be good for lucid dreams, but whenever I've taken it, I've only had seriously emotional messed up dreams where I'm extremely upset and stuff. Really not a pleasant experience! But yeah, I think milk may help you sleep longer, and I know that the longer I dream, the more likely I am to be lucid, so yeah I think there's a good chance milk could play a part.
the tryptophan in turkey and milk don't make you sleepy, that's a myth. It only makes you sleepy when it's a free amino acid, and in food it's part of a protein. The reason turkey dinners make you sleepy is probably because you eat so much on thanksgiving.

Sure
I often make homemade Banana Milkshake in a Blender, my it is the best.
I throw in one peeled soft banana, 3 big tablespoons of vanilla ice and a bit of milk and blend it up. Banana also contains Tryptophan so that's like the best dream potentiating Drink ever.
And the tastiest for sure![]()

I agree with Awhislyle and dreamerer, warm milk is nasty. I love it icy cold, but even if it did help LD's, I wouldn't touch it warm.
Adopted Megabenman although he disappeared a while ago.
I think I'll try what Awhislyle said tonight, hot milk.
