Hey all how is it going? I read on another forum that chocolat is actually a good sleep aid. But I read in a book that chocolat can keep you up . Why would chocolat be a sleep aid? I tend to believe that the chocolat would keep you up due to the sugar. Let me know what your opinons are.

If memory serves, chocolate contains endorphins, which help you relax.

Chocolate does contain sugar, which does keep you awake. But, there's other stuff in chocolate (forget which) which serves as a relaxant. All in all, while it DOESNT help you sleep, it does boost dreaming if you can go to sleep after consuming chocolate.

Chocolate helps you dream, but it contains caffeine which might keep you awake.

I am HIGHLY skeptical that chocolate will help you selp because it contains caffeine and a lot of sugar. BUT if used in a relaxing session consisting of a hot bath and a ONE square of quite DARK 65% cocoa content chocolate it may help to RELAX you which will help you get to sleep faster and maybe have a better sleep but trust me. Chocolate will definetely not Enhance sleep!

Also Incorrect! endorphins are complex chemicicals produced in the brain which give you a Good feeling Eg thrill seekers may get a big boost of this chemical after a rollercoaster ride which is why they are drawn to them! Any there are NO endorphins in chocolate however if you are trying to relax in a hot bath nibbling on chocolate ( chocolate not neccessary ) with candles and music reading your favourite book your brain will produce endorphins and you will fell "good"
