Do people think you're crazy when you talk about dreams?

Just wondering, because I just bought some calea and my parents were like "what is that", and I explained to them it was for dreaming and they were like wtf.

      Anyone else?

I told my mom (who is pretty oldschool) and she was curious about it, but also somewhat skeptical. It wasn't until she told her friend who also happened to know about it that she was convinced.

Some of my friends think it's heaps interesting and want to get into it, others just think it's stupid and weird.
They say dreams are as real as long as they last, couldn't we say the same thing about life?

I think that, generally people like to talk about dreams, it's a bit mystical and people have a lot of personal experience with it. For a conversation it would be best of both parts could share experiences, then I think that they would be more intersted.

But again, some people I know just don't want to talk about dreams, it's like it don't exist for them. Maybe they think I am crazy, but what do I care?

I find very often that when I talk to people about my dreams or dreams in general, the conversation immediately loses momentum, like the other person just acts uninterested. I'm come to assume that their dreams just suck; how else could they not be absolutely captivated by them?

Would you people believe me that, when I talk about dreams, it is not as crazy as the other stuff I do, or more likely, don't do (like liking music) <.<
In fact, some people see me normal again for a brief moment lol

My friends don't talk about their dreams of their own free will, but when I tell them of a recent dream I've had, they get interested and begin to open up and tell me some of theirs.

They're those "I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours" kind of people.

My friends thought it was odd how much into dreams i was, but i didn't really think too much of it. Most think it's boring, to quote Waking Life,
"-I wanna tell you about a dream i once had. I know that's, when someone says that, that's usually you're in for a very boring next few minutes, and you might be. But it sounds like, ya'know, what else are you gonna do right?"

My best friends had a lucid dream once, and she said it was so scary I never talk to my parnets about dreams, but my sister thinks I'm weird.

I've often heard family talking about SP incidents, thinking it was their projection of dream that affected their physical state, or that they've heard sounds and been paralysed with fear, and I have really always resisted saying "that's just SP, it's not uncommon and you can enter an LD with it easily blarg blarg blarg".

We're equally human and inexplicable, I'm not about to throw pseudo definitions at them when they have their own ideas.

Sister thinks it's typically lame, brother is interested to some extent though not enough to currently pursue, mother is sceptical but doesn't want to show non-acceptance, father has no clue unless she told him.

They really know nothing even vaguely about myself!

Everyone already knows I'm crazy, so I don't really run into any surprise

Whenever I bring it up, people get really interested. They always end up telling me one of their dreams or something. People love talking about their dreams if you give them a chance.

      lol..

Well my friends are awesome, they love talking about dreams. I havn't talked too much about lucid dreams with them though. My parents were very interested and my old school dad a little skeptical... My sister is super into it and has actually had near-WILD experiences without knowing what it was AND my brother is new member of DV and very interested same with his Fiance and same with my boyfriend (not members, but interested)

Don't know if it is a Northwest thing but everyone around here seems pretty in touch with dreams and talking about them....

It's possible. I haven't run across too many hostile or phobic people who shirk away when you talk to them about dreaming. Most of them will listen when I tell a dream and sometimes it sparks off a good conversation, but I don't go "Hey I had a dream where I was with Antonio Banderas on a magic carpet in Seattle and we saved the empire from a race of super-mutant hamster-oranges!" I can't say I dreamed about that (and would be questioning my mental stability if I went that far), but if I have a really good flying dream or something that makes me think, I'll share it.

I find a number of people will share one of their dreams, but then that's about it. I've only met one person who was even remotely upset because she didn't believe me when I told her that most people aren't lucid all the time. She said she always knew when she was dreaming and was surprised when I explained my point of view.

And yah, there are a number of threads about this topic, but I figure that I don't have a whole lot to do right now so I'll post here

Generally the people I tell are amused with me when I talk about dreams, which is kind of frustrating. They laugh at my need for lucidity <.<

Same here in BC, the vibe is a lot more focused on connecting to your life and the experiences in it, especially dreaming, mystics and ethogens.

I don't get why people get so weirded out about it. Everyone dreams, whether we remember it or not. I'm pretty sure I read it as scientific fact somewhere that it's been proven that everyone dreams.

It's a bit funky i guess hehe...Yeh, i found out somewhat recently that my sister is able to lucid dream or at least be able to realize that she is dreaming. I had no idea for the longest time, pretty much found out just about 8 months ago.
Its a great connector when you can find other people who share in this very affirming experience...Immediately you know that they know, and they know that you know they know...lol
