      dreams and love

Dreams can be such a profound experience.. have you ever had even just a short dream where you've been in the presence of a previous lover/love interest, felt a connection, maybe not even spoken to them, but then woken up and felt like you were as passionately in love with them as you ever were?

Personally I get it all the time (though less often nowadays).. the number of times I've dreamt of certain people then woken up and spent the next day or so thinking I was back in love with them.. it usually fades after about a day, but not always.

      Anyone else?

      End the dry spell!

Yes, very much. And I've responded to quite a few posts on this and other forums. It's a very powerful feeling - more powerful than feeling in love in real life in my experience. Sometimes the character is someone from my past other times a complete stranger.

[So as not to disappoint Moonbeam!] It's a feeling from deep within of a yearned for but lost part of you. Something you look for and hope to find in other people but they rarely fulfill this need. It's that feeling of being in love and afterwards we're left with a feeling of loss. The challenge for us is to find that other part of us so we can feel love/loved all the time. It's that yearning to feel whole again.

I dread the nights when I dream about a certain person from my past. I'm not sure if it was love or just deep admiration and happiness about feeling at ease when I was around her... but things ended very badly between us and now almost evertime I see her in my dreams I feel sublimy sad and ashamed of myself. Sometimes I get a taste of the feelings I miss, but those are worse than when I feel rejected because they stop being real when I wake up and I'm left grasping at whisps of memory.

Oh hey theres actually an emoticon that expresses how I feel afterwards:

aww, that's very beautifully put.. it is sort of like the perfect 'magical union', right there, right then, just the two of you, nothing else matters.. even exists..

could only be in a dream

Yes, I suppose. I wonder how many RL experiences of being in love have more to do with the individual's hopefulness than what the other person actually provides. Do we not refer to our "dream lover"? And how many of us have said "I'll never fall in love again" after having been hurt?

In dreams it's just us and we can feel love without hurt and hurt without love.

I look forward to meeting lovers in my dreams (they're usually strangers with me) and even the feeling of loss the following day is OK as it doesn't actually hurt like being let down in RL.

Happened to me sometimes, but one day was with someone that I knew personally... I simply woke up loving her

yeh, i'm looking forward to it myself actually.. this conversation would sound so odd to anyone who hasn't experienced it, but it's just the pure, simple love.. it's impossible to put it into words, but it's amazing and perfect to experience.

Go for it. Not sure how to make it happen but from experience these come around once every few weeks or so. More if I'm feeling unloved

Now that one is obvious to me! (DC who represents a part of yourself).

My dream-lovers with those intense feelings are always strangers.

I have had these sorts of dreams in lucids and non lucids and they can be very deep and emotional and can have a huge effect on you.

I had another one last night. With someone I know well and (used to?) like. It was pretty nice.. really reflects my general state of mind right now.

Same with me. Other posters report intense feelings with ex-lovers and friends-who-aren't-lovers, for example.

I think the feelings in these dreams are so strong and so pure is because there are no logistics involved. There are no practicalities. Kind of like dream sex. You never have an experience where there's awkwardness or someone accidentally elbows you in the head. It's all perfect-because dreams can be that.

I think this happened to me when I was young, ten maybe.
I had this dream were I was marrying this girl that had like purple hair. It was kinda a gothish sorta wedding. Which was weird because I wasn't into that stuff till 15 maybe.

What really freaks me out is that the girl in that dream when I was a kid, looks just like my ex girlfriend.

in some of my dreams like this (and I have a fair few of them) I find the best ones are the realistic ones especially with the awkwardness in them

Im a massive fan of these simply for the fact that like alwaysforward says the can be perfect without the nasty natures or deceptiveness I so often find in people

I wonder if these dreams have therapeutic power. I just had a dream about a singer that I fantasize about, and we finally kissed and it was so real. I haven't had a girlfriend in many years, so it felt like a tremendous relief in the dream. Then of course, I wake up and wonder if it was worth it to be teased like that, like a cosmic joke.
