Online Dream Journals.. Isnt it unsafe?

      Hi all..

Dreams, are the thoughts that exist deep in the subconscious mind.

It is something very very personal.

Writing my dreams journal online, or just saying to someone, no matter how much he/she is close, means that he/she will know what is inside me, and the deep thoughts that drive most of life.

      Isnt this unsafe?

Im always keeping a dreaming journal..
But i never show it to anyone..

      Thnx a lot ..

      Best wishes.

I suppose if you started sharing personal information like names of people you could end up in trouble. But most people make up nicknames to describe people they know, such as shortening "Amy" to just "A" in their dream journals.

Other than that, I don't see how sharing your dreams would be unsafe, unless you shared something like, "I dreamed that I saw my social security number, which is xxx-xx-xxxx."

I use nonspecific adjectives to describe people (i.e. "friend," "sister" "mother," etc). When something isn't immediately obvious, I will write the name down, but delete the name before it reaches the internet. That way, the public has my anon version, and I have my detailed version.

It's a good question, as unconscious material (although now conscious) does feel very personal, and if we knew what it was all about it probably reveals a lot about our selves. Is it because you find it embarrassing for people to read your dreams - a bit like being seen naked in public?

Whatever, you need to look after yourself. Many people (as others in this thread have stated) (i) don't reveal their true identity, (ii) don't mention other peoples' names and (iii) don't post any photos etc. So unless you don't trust your admin or someone is looking over your shoulder, everything should be anonymous.

In my opinion, there's something therapeutic about keeping a public DJ. If you wthhold information (tends to involve the body!) from your online DJ it's interesting to reflect why this is.

Also in my opinion, online DJs would work so much better if we engaged more with each other's subconscious material rather than just focusing in on the entertaining bits. But that's another topic!

I believe much the same, but that it is a learning environment--to teach one correct human will. Consequently what is being focused on is one's short comings. Now if one understood the error of their thoughts or actions, they would not even dream of doing them. Since they are not aware, they are not aware that they are exposing themselves--it is not possible for them to care about what they know not.

The danger is in someone with ill intent building a psychological profile of a person to use against them. However, that would mean that the person was of some interest. We always display our psychological deficiencies--and are generally unaware of it.

However, I think a minimal amount of awareness for someone intelligent is knowing that there is an ideal, an ideal based on the intended function of the human mind, which is evolving to become what it is designed to be.

In effect, then, what you are asking, is which is the correct behavior, to thoughtlessly display the self in all its radiant deformity, or to engage in a life of modesty and self-critique? You are approaching that question and when you see it, the answer is self-evident.

There is some historical evidence for this view--Job 33:14-17

I struggled with this for a little while, but then I realized that I'm free to do with my dreams as I will. There are definitely people that I would steer away from my journal as much as possible, but that is only because I don't think they are open-minded enough to accept what they read, without being so ignorantly judgmental of my waking-world persona. I shorten names to initials, and don't put in too much geographical information, but, in the end, these are my dreams. Anyone who wants to look down on me for them can get bent.

To me, it's the same principal as an artist debating on whether or not society will accept his vision. At the end of the day, some will and some won't. They can decide for themselves. Of course, there are some things that I just won't post online, but those are only topics of an extremely personal nature.

I don't think there's anyone on the Internet who would be able to learn anything from my adventures in the land of anthropomorphic Pikachu death-spirits and cream-cheese ice-cream anyway.

Yeah, I only show completely non personal dreams in my DJ here when I write in it. I actually have 3 Dream Journals. My main Dream Journal, (called Dream Journal) which is full of every dream I've ever had. My 2nd DJ, called Dreams which is full of mostly personal stuff and some not personal stuff that's taken from my main DJ. And my 3rd one, which is called Dreams 2 which is full of nothing but completely personal 100% about me dreams which has dreams from my main DJ and 2nd DJ. I never post anything from the last one.

Actually, now I know you dream about anthropomorphic Pikachu death-spirits and cream-cheese ice-cream. If I ever meet you in real life, I'll totally be able to freak you out with my psychic powers.

I simply wouldn't post anything that you're uncomfortable with.

When I have dreams that are too personal for me to share with people, I write them down and do not post them on DV. Sometimes I'll talk about them with people who are close to me, if I would like to discuss them... but generally, it's each individuals personal call on what they feel comfortable with sharing.
