you are probably distractated far too easy when being "on your own". With a helper like the blindfold, it is easier....
When I go to a sauna it is so easy for me to enter a state of maximum relaxation etc. but when I am trying to meditate it's a big struggle everytime..
idk .. it must be the helper-effect of the blindfold and sauna
      Religion is curable.

It might be some kind of placebo... your mind just thinks it can't work without a blindfold and therefore refuses to, especially since you are concentrating on creating imaginative imagery. Happens a lot with me... but everyone's different.

Possibly with the blinfold, you are getting very little light without working for it (even less than with closed eyes), causing you to be closer to a sleeplike/dreamlike state, so while you aren't dreaming, or even sleeping, it has a similar (though lighter) effect on your brain. Just a thought.
