      Subconscious thoughts

Anyone ever had these? Basically, on the way to sleep I find I can sometimes "catch" myself before drifting off. I find myself thinking about loads of weird nonsensical crap just before sleeping. I remember once I was thinking of having a globe, taking the continents out and filling them in with a kind of concrete mix. It gets WAY stranger than that but I can't remember or describe them all. The odd thing is I was thinking about them completely seriously as if they made perfect sense! I would then try to trace back to a previous thought and then I'd realise it made no sense and become conscious again. It'd be a pleasure to hear anyone elses experiences of these thoughts on the borderline of sleep. And any ideas on why they occur anyway?

      Or is it just me?

I know this happens to me, but I promptly forget what it was I was thinking about the moment I wake up again. I came up with the idea of keeping a pencil nearby to jot down the weird thoughts that flit through my head when I doze off for a moment, but I remembered to actually do it only once. On looking at it later, I found that I'd written down something like, "I will not let him take his life in his own hands."

I'm fairly certain that's a relatively mundane one, considering. o_o

In a similar vein, back when I was keeping track of every dream I had a night by jotting down notes every time I awoke, I'd often wake up for good in the morning and find some nonsense words that would then trail off into illegible scribblings. I know they made sense when I was writing them, but I couldn't figure them out when awake!

I've had that happen to me, too -- the nonsense words disolving into scribbles. Once I wrote down a whole paragraph about some musicians who performed at a club called "The Pelt Pocket." One was named "Triksy Mary Anus." Another time I wrote down, "Look to the clouds that's were I'll be."

I have the weird, random thoughts that make no logical sense on closer inspection. A few days ago I was thinking very seriously about building an indestructible shield to protect against nuclear blasts made out of layers of yellow carpet.

Yeah, the mind is a weird thing.

I'm sorry, that made me laugh.

Reading this made me recall another time I was dozing off while writing fiction. I just remembered that whenever I would do this, I'd start typing completely inane things. One time I started writing as if I thought I were in a commercial.

Often, when I wake up to turn off my alarm clock, I'll find myself extremely frustrated because rather than an alarm clock I'm certain it's a computer and I can't for the life of me figure out how to program it or connect to the Internet to program it! I have to kind of wait a few minutes to "snap" myself out of this mindset and realize it's just a simple alarm clock.
