weird feeling of getting startled after a dream?

whats up everybody? well, I have just recently started my Lucid Dreaming again (not too much, but I'm getting back into it again) and last night, I tried to get into SP. I got about halfway there, and then I decided that I'd rather not because i've got school tomorrow, and I just need some time to sleep.

Well, I started getting to that state where I'm just DEAD tired, and everytime I close my eyes, I see HI and feel myself drifting off. However, I got this weird feeling everytime I'd open my eyes after the HI...like I was being startled.

You guys know that feeling you get where your heart "skips a beat" or your stomach feels like it's dropping? like going over a hill in a car?

I got that feeling. It was so weird; and I was so sleepy and dazed that I couldn't consciously comprehend the logic of it, so I was scared. It happened like 3 times after I started to close my eyes.

any idea what this is? perhaps just the entry into a sleep state? This isn't the first time i've had it either.

I get this often. Normally, when I'm falling asleep, I think. A lot.

I get lost in these thoughts, and my body starts to fall asleep. If the thoughts bring up something, say, I didn't take out my contact lenses. Then, my body wakes up so I can get up and take them out. Even if I decide not to, the feeling that you described (The little adrenaline rush) occurs.

Something else that causes this is sounds in the area that I'm trying to sleep in. Again, just waking me up a little.
      Bollocks.

I get that sudden shock feeling at the weirdest times, not when i fall in my dreams or anything like that. Just a sudden feeling like i was punched in the face or something. Really bugs me since it takes me about 4 hours to actualy get to sleep.

same problem as hisname. Is it the fear that makes you stay awake or is it the punch thingy who wakes you up?
