      Desktop wallpaper issue.

      I have a computer that uses Windows XP Professional.

      Yesterday, I tried to change my wallpaper because I became bored of my current one. I got the "display properties" window open, and then opened up "browse" to find one. However, as soon as I selected the file, both windows froze and didn't respond. I had to close them.

      I tried it again today, even choosing different files, but the same issue occurred.

      Can someone explain why this is happening? Thanks.

      What filetype are the images you're selecting and how big are they?

      The dimensions are 1024x768, it's a .png type file and its size is 204KB. The other wallpaper I tried to put on is the one I'm currently using, but it froze too.

      That's pretty odd. You could try replacing the file that is currently your background. Swap the names around. It's not ideal, but I'm not really sure why XP does that.

      If you open the folder where the image is located with windows explorer, and right click on it, there might be an "set as desktop background" option. There are in later editions of Windwos, at least.

      I managed to set it. Although the conventional way is still freezing up, at least I can enjoy my wallpaper now.
