You've gotta split the file manually, although I think there are some programs out there that do that. Other than that you can always replace the firmware, I've tried RockBox (http://www.rockbox.org), and it allows the viewing of large txt files (as far as I know there isn't a limit). But I'd try searching for a program that automatically splits the file.

Yeah, it's cool. All you have to do is: Sync off (erase disk), sync on (resync all files).
It is only useful if you are constantly updating, adding and removing files from your library. And that includes the little bits of data such as album art and artist/categories/notes/lyrics etc. You shouldn't need to do it that often though...
, and when you have sync on you can only transfer from one computer. I sometimes leech stuff off of my friends or sister, so yeah.
